คัมภีร์เก่า เล่าว่าเมืองซอด็อม (Sodom) และเมืองเกอมอเรอ (Gomorah) เป็นเมืองแห่งความชั่วร้าย มีแต่คนจิตใจบาปหยาบช้า พระผู้
เป็นเจ้าจึงมีพระบัญชาให้เผาเมืองทั้งสองลงเสียให้เป็นจุล ต่อมาได้เกิดต้นแอปเปิลขึ้นจากเถ้าถ่านของซากเมือง เมื่อแอปเปิลดังกล่าว
