GERUND

Gerund คือ การทํากริยาให้เป็นคํานาม โดยการเติม –ing เมื่อเติม –ing แล้ว จึงสามารถใช้ทําหน้าทีไ่ ด้ เช่นเดียวกับ
คํานาม คือ
1. ทําหน้าที่เป็นประธานของกริยา เช่น Dressing in Thai costumes interests all the foreigners.
2. ทําหน้าที่เป็นกรรมของกริยา เช่น She enjoys dancing.
3. ทําหน้าที่เป็น “ส่วนเติมเต็ม” ของกริยา เช่น His favorite hobby is collecting coins.
4. ทําหน้าที่เป็นกรรมของบุพบท เช่น She is very fond of dancing.
หลักการใช้ Gerund
1. เมือ่ อยูห่ ลังกริยาต่อไปนี้ gerund โดยจะเป็นกรรมของกริยาเหล่านี้
admit = ยอมรับ appreciate = ชื่นชอบ avoid = หลีกเลี่ยง
consider = พิจารณา delay = ทําให้ลา้ ช้า deny = ปฏิเสธ
detest = เกลียดชัง discuss = ปรึกษาหารือ mind = รังเกียจ
dislike = ไม่ชอบ enjoy = สนุกสนาน forgive = ยกโทษให้
finish = ทําสําเร็จ keep = ทําต่อไป resist = ต่อต้าน
miss = พลาด postpone = เลื่อนไป recall = ระลึกถึง
recommend = แนะนํา regret = เสียใจ remember = จําได้
risk = เสี่ยง stop = เลิก, หยุด suggest = เสนอแนะ
Examples : I don’t mind waiting for her.
She enjoys playing the piano.
You must avoid drinking while driving.
He stopped smoking as the doctor advised him.
2. เมือ่ อยูใ่ นหลังบุพบท (prepositions) เช่น on, of, by, for, about, …. etc.
Examples : He earns his living by playing the piano.
She is good at speaking French.
This knife is used for cutting meat.
I am keen on cooking Thai food.
3. เมือ่ อยูห่ ลังคําหรือวลี ต่อไปนี้
be worth = มีค่า look forward to = ตั้งตาคอย
be object to = คัดค้าน be / get used to = เคยชินกับ
can’t bear = ทนไม่ได้ can’t help = ทนไม่ได้
can’t stand = ขัดไม่ได้ It’s no use / good = ไม่มีประโยชน์ที่จะ

4. เมื่ออยู่หลัง go และมักเป็นกิจกรรมต่างๆ เช่น
Examples : She always go shopping on Sunday.
They went sailing last weekend.
Those men like going hunting when they have free time.
The boy scouts went camping for five days.
กริยาต่อไปนี้ เมื่อใช้เป็น Infinitive with to กับ Gerund จะมีความหมายต่างกัน

**ความหมายต่างกัน
forget = ลืม remember = จําได้
stop = เลิก, หยุด try = พยายาม, ลอง

Examples : - He forgot to bring his book again. (เขาลืมนําสมุดมาอีกแล้ว)

He forgot bringing his book. (เขานําสมุดมาแล้ว แต่ลืมว่าได้นํามา)
- I remember to mail your letters. (ฉันไม่ลมื ที่จะส่งจดหมายของคุณ)
I remember mailing your letters. (ฉันจําได้ว่าได้ส่งจดหมายของคุณแล้ว)
- She tried to wear that beautiful dress. (เธอพยายามที่จะสวมชุดนั้น)
She tried wearing that beautiful dress. (เธอทดลองสวมเสื้อชุดนั้น)
