DAY 1: Writing Correct Sentences (pgs. 214-215, 241)
“I can identify and use subject pronouns in a sentence.”

A pronoun is a word that can take the place of one or more nouns in a sentence.

Write sentences for the students with proper or common nouns. Students will underline the subject, identify the
noun in the subject and replace the noun to a pronoun. Provide guided practice.
Pre-requisite skill: The students should be able to identify the subject of the sentence. From the sentence, they can
identify the noun. The nouns can be replaced with a pronoun.

Check for understanding/Assessment: Have students write three sentences about a friend or self selected topic using
pronouns.

Activity: Write a poem. (pg. 215)

Homework: Complete the practice sheet.

DAY 2: Pronouns and Verbs (pgs. 216-217, 242)


“I can use and proofread for correct verb forms with subject pronouns.”

Rule:
Add –s or –es to a verb in the present when the subject is he, she, or it.
Do not add –s, or –es to a verb in the present when the subject is I, you, we, or they.

Write sentences using correct verb form on the board. Provide guided practice.

Check for understanding/Assessment: Have students proofread a sentence using the correct verb form.

DAY 3: Object Pronoun (218-219,243)


“I can identify object pronouns (me, you, him, her, it, us, and them) and use object pronouns to replace nouns.”

A subject pronoun can be the subject of a sentence. The pronouns me, you, him, her, it, us, and them are called object
pronoun. Object pronouns follow action verbs and words like to, for, at, of, and with.
The pronouns it and you are both subject pronouns and object pronouns.

Write sentences for the students on the board. Students will identify the predicate. Identify the noun in the
predicate and replace the noun to a pronoun. Provide guided practice.

Pre-requisite skill: The students should be able to identify the predicate of the sentence. From the sentence, they can
identify the noun. The nouns can be replaced with an object pronoun.
Check for understanding/Assessment: Provide students with sentences where they can change the noun in the
predicate with an object pronoun.

Activity: Write a Description (pg. 219)

DAY 4: Using I and me (222-223, 244)


“I can use the pronoun I and me correctly.”

Use the pronoun I only as the subjects of a sentence. Use the pronoun me on ly as an object pronoun.
When you talk about another person and yourself, it is polite to name yourself last. Always capitalize the word I.

Write sentences on the board where students can correct/proofread. Provide guided practice.

Check for understanding/Assessment: Write sntences on the board. Instruct students to use I and me correctly.

Activity: Write a Story About Yourself (pg. 223)

DAY 5: Possessive Pronouns (224-225, 245)


I can identify and use possessive pronouns to replace possessive nouns.

Write sentences on the board. Some sentences, students will identify the possessive pronouns, For some sentences,
students will replace the nouns with possessive pronoun. Provide guided practice.

Check for understanding/Assessment: Write sentences on the board where students * identify the possessive
pronouns, * replace the noun with possessive pronoun, and *compose their own sentences using possessive
pronouns.

Activity: Write a Description (pg.225)

Homework: Complete the practice sheet.

DAY 6: Contraction (226-227, 246)


I can identify pronoun-verb contractions. I can proofread for correct contractions.

Contraction is a word made by putting two words together. An apostrophe replaces the letter or letters that are left
out. Many contractions are made by joining a pronoun and a verb.

Write a pair of words on the board. Show how words are combined using an apostrophe. Provide guided practice.

Check for understanding/Assessment: Write sentences on the board students can identify the contractions and
proofread a sentence for correct contractions. Have students write their own sentences using contractions.

Activity: Write Silly Rhymes (pg. 227)

Homework: Complete the practice sheet.

DAY 7: Using there, their, and they’re (pgs. 228-229, 247)


I can choose among there, their, and they’re to complete a sentence.
I can proofread for correct use of there, their, and they’re.
