Science/Fine Arts Share The Shore: Watch Marine Mammals Responsibly
Learning Goal/Objective:
In this lesson, students will be able to:
 Explain the different characteristics of the following marine mammals in the Pacific Islands
region: dolphins, sea turtles, Hawaiian sea monks, and turtles.
 They will discuss how these differences can give members of these groups an advantage in
surviving and reproducing.

 5.2.6 Explain that living things, such as plants and animals, differ in their characteristics and
that sometimes these differences can give members of these groups (plants and animals) an
advantage in surviving and reproducing.
Assessment of Prior Knowledge:
 Students will fill out a KWL Chart on the whiteboard that will show what they know, what they
want to know, and what they learned about the marine mammals.

2. The teacher will go over the NOAA “Share The Shore”
Contest Guidelines.
3. Students will sketch their drawings for the NOAA Art
Contest.

 Pop Quizzes at the start of the period.
