BSTM 3.2A
As he gathers information about his audience, he discovers that 40 percent of his future listeners rely on
tobacco farming and manufacturing for their main source of income. What should he do? Justify your
answer
A. Drop the information about the impact of tobacco to their health to avoid offending the
listeners.
Smoking has been linked to cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and a variety of other
illnesses. As a result of this information, I recommend that he develop a presentation so that
the audience understands the various diseases that might result from smoking.
B. Mention the issue but downplay it and recommend that listeners do research and decide for
themselves.
Global ecosystem disruptions
Deforestation
Food insecurity
C. Keep the information and emphasize studies about the harm caused by exposure to tobacco
leaves and recommend a solution for the problem.
Nicotine poisoning, also known as Green Tobacco Sickness, can result from handling tobacco
leaves. Symptoms include nausea and vomiting. When the nicotine in tobacco leaves comes
into contact with rain, dew, or sweat, the risk of nicotine poisoning rises, making it easier for
nicotine to penetrate onto the skin and into the bloodstream. To avoid nicotine exposure
from tobacco leaves, gloves, long sleeve shirts, long pants, and water-resistant clothing are
recommended. To limit nicotine exposure, it is recommended that you wash with soap and
water soon after working. When you wash your hands, you may get rid of 96% of the
nicotine on your skin.
