Butler University Gets a New Production Truck

College of Communication Students will Acquire Hands-On Experience

INDIANAPOLIS- Butler University’s College of Communications (CCOM) students will have

the opportunity to learn what life after graduation will look like, thanks to the purchase of a new
video production truck. Students within CCOM will be able to experience the many forms of
video production, as well as gain essential skills necessary for work after graduation. Students
will rotate through different positions in video production across a semester, acclimating them to
post-graduation work.

“With numerous opportunities to both learn and work with the video production truck, students
will graduate with unique experience on their resumes, including experience in announcing,
producing, directing, and as operators,” said Margaretha Geertsema-Sligh, the interim dean of
CCOM. “Butler students will be well prepared for top internships as students, and they will
acquire experience that differentiates them from their peers when it comes time to apply for jobs
after graduation,”

The truck is equipped with an intercom system, several cross-platform broadcast cameras and a
state-of-the-art multicamera video switcher. During the semester, CCOM students will take on
roles such as play-by-play commentator, audio operator, sideline reporter, director and producer.
The students will have the opportunity to cover athletic events such as the women’s basketball,
lacrosse and softball games. These first-rate technologies and roles will allow for the finest of
experience for CCOM students as they further their talents in the field of video production.
