IOT Based Prevention of Overcrowding System

Abstract
During covid pandemic the most effective way not to be affected by virus is to
avoid gatherings and crowded places. But now it has become an emerging
issue how to mitigate or terminate the problem of overcrowding in transports
like bus or any other public vehicles. In the current crucial issues of the world,
uncentralized transport management system especially in metropolitan cities
is one of the major problems. Considering the fact, we have proposed a smart
transport management system using the Internet of Things communication
protocols, motion detecting sensors. This proposed system can control
overcrowding problem in bus or any other vehicles to a greater extent by
detecting how many passengers are getting on or off it and the number of
remaining blank seats.
Mobile App
By using this mobile application :
1.Users can see current status of nearby buses of different routes.
2.They can manually select their destination route and check up the
information.
3.With the aid of those information users can move to another nearest
bus stop to get on an unfilled bus if it’s needed.

Introduction
As COVID-19 cases arise, there are growing concerns about bus overcrowding
in urban cities. In country like Ontario, government has issued guidance for
transportation agencies. That says, passengers should maintain a two-meter
distance where possible. But acknowledges that this won’t always be the
case. Because it does not establish a limit for how many passengers should be
allowed on a bus at a time. And now it has become a burning issue for most of
the overpopulated countries. The question is, how can we relate the social
distancing regulations for public transport planning? If we look into Dhaka city
of Bangladesh, we will see bad transport management has not only increased
high traffic congestion but also the spread of virus during pandemic. So it is
necessary to monitor and detect the number of passengers in a bus to control
overcrowding and make a centralized smart transport management system to
enforce the law of social distancing.

Proposed Solution
To mitigate the mentioned problem, we have proposed IoT based smart
transport system that aims to monitor passenger service in a public transport
like bus with aid of IoT tool and attached sensor. This smart device will be
connected to every bus. This will monitor the number of passengers getting
on the bus. If the number of passengers become more than number of
allocated seats in the bus, it will send an alert message to the nearest traffic
police station that will show up the name, IP address and version of each
sensor assigned to the bus. Alert will be sent when there will be any deviation
from authorized activity, protocol and operational anomalies and suspected
malware.
This way a bus can be traced if it transgresses transport regulation in a
recurrent manner.
Monitoring Passengers in Bus with IoT
In the time of COVID-19 pandemic smart transport management in a smart
city can be monitored with a smart technology like Internet of Things(IoT) that
can prevent public transports from overcrowding problem and reduce the rate
of COVID-19 transmission to a greater extent.
Here our internet connected sensor solution can provide :
1.Countability of passenger number with the help of physical motion
detection on each seat of the bus.
2.Sending text or SMS alerts to the nearest traffic police station.
3.Data sharing capability to the database of traffic station.
4.ioT based denumerable device and wireless motion detecting sensor is used
to detect passenger number compared to the number of seats.
5.Local Area Network (LAN) is used to connect those smart devices together in
the traffic police station of that particular area which the buses are currently
moving through.
6.MQTT protocol is used to send alert test to the nearest traffic station and
data regarding the sensor and the bus to their database.
7.Update the current status of nearby buses by sharing data regarding the
number of blank seats, name and route of the buses.
Conclusion
This IoT based solution can bring some changes to the current transport
management system of overpopulated countries in the hope to reduce
the transmission of virus due to overcrowding in public transports. This
smart device can contribute a lot to the transport management system in
metropolis. If this overall process is done by human-operated
management, it will be more time consuming and troublesome. However
this automated IoT monitoring system can bring massive benefits to the
existing transport management.
