1. Course Objective:
The course presents an applied and advanced research process using latest research information
technology. The course aims at developing among students a research mentality and an understanding of
the tools and techniques of business and research. Topics will broadly include: formulation and use of
hypotheses, logical reasoning, observation and experimentation; analogy and inference measurement and
scaling techniques, test of reliability and validity, steps/ methods followed in business research,
design/development of methodology, data collection and processing, and report writing.
2. Course Summary (Course Contents):
Introduction to research: Meaning of research; Characteristics of research; Types of research; Steps of a
research study Literature review; Importance of literature review; Steps of literature review
Collecting of data: Meaning; Types of data; Methods of data collection; Ethics in data collection; Ethical
issues regarding to participants, researchers and organization; Stakeholders in research
Processing of data: Meaning; Data editing; Data classifying; Data classifying types; Data coding;
Tabulation of data; Data analysis; Presenting data; Data presentation using graph
Writing a research report: Research writing in general; Referencing; Writing a bibliography; developing
an outline; Writing about variable
Statistical tools & techniques used in research: T-test; F-test; Z-test; Chi-square test; Correlation
analysis; Regression analysis; Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
Role of computer & statistical software in research: Importance and usages of computer in research;
SPSS; E-views
3. Course Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

CLO 1 Apply an advanced understanding of business research design options, methodologies
and analysis methods (both qualitative and quantitative), including respective terms,
definitions and applications to the design, implementation and evaluation of a research
project.
CLO 2 Distil an identified business problem into a succinct research problem (or problems)
and articulate this into a comprehensive research brief for investigation by a research
team locally or internationally.
CLO 3 Apply a broad understanding of issues specific to undertaking business research across
national and international boundaries, including cultural, geographical, language and
cost related challenges and respective strategies and approaches that may be employed
to solve them to the design, implementation and evaluation of a
research project.
CLO 4 Recognize, and take account of, the importance of ethical conduct in undertaking
research, using different data analysis tools and techniques in implementation and
evaluation of a research project.
CLO 5 Solve a range of problems in the real field using the techniques covered in this course.
CLO 6 Conduct basic statistical analysis of data where needed using SPSS and STATA
