Course The course presents an applied and advanced research process using latest
Synopsis research information technology. The course aims at developing among
students a research mentality and an understanding of the tools and
techniques of business and research. Topics will broadly include:
formulation and use of hypotheses, logical reasoning, observation and
experimentation; analogy and inference measurement and scaling
techniques, test of reliability and validity, steps/ methods followed in
business research, design/development of methodology, data collection and
processing, and report writing.

1. INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH: Meaning of research; Characteristics of research;

Types of research; Steps of a research study Literature review; Importance of literature
review; Steps of literature review

2. FORMULATING RESEARCH PROBLEM: Meaning; Importance of formulating a

research problem; Considerations of selecting a research problem; Steps in formulating a
research problem; Concept and Indicator; Variables; Types of variables; Measurement
scales and its types; Hypothesis; Characteristics of hypothesis; Types of hypothesis; Type
I and type II errors
