INSIGHTS THAT I’VE GAINED IN DOING BADMINTON DRILLS

The badminton drill that I did is forehand, backhand, and full smash racket swing with footwork. There are
so many different routines for badminton, however some drills are better than others for improving your
shots and movement patterns. And these are the knowledge and techniques that I gained from that drill.
First, a good badminton game starts with how you hold your racket which is the most important basic step.
A good grip on badminton rackets can reduce injuries, increase the range of shots, and produces more
efficient hits. A player may get carried away with the game that the first essential thing to do is forgotten
hence results in poor performance and multiple mistakes during game. Incorrect grip will limit the range of
strokes required in a dynamic badminton game.
Next, driving back and forth between you and your partner is a great first routine. It is an exercise that we,
and all other professional players, start every knock-up with. Mid-court drives should be done with a level
of co-operation, not just trying to hit it as hard as you can. During this routine, you should focus on having
a short racket swing and taking the shuttle out in front of you to ensure you are ready for the next shot. A
second focus area is your foot timing landing at the same time as you strike the shot. This is important
because if you land before you have hit the shot, you cannot adjust your body positioning at the last moment.
In contrast, if you hit the shot before you land then you are less in control of your body. There are many
benefits of mid-court drives: you can improve the power in your shots, your reactions, shot timing, and
racket head speed.
Lastly and the most important thing is the good footwork. Good footwork is fundamental to playing
badminton well. At a high level, it’s arguably believed that footwork contributes to more than 50% of the
success on the pitch. Since badminton is a fast game, the techniques, the swings, and the shots are greatly
affected by the timing and effectiveness of a player’s footwork. Footwork, arguably the most essential skill
in badminton, is important because it allows players to move efficiently around the pitch while being able
to meet and hit the shuttle with proper balance, timing, as well as technique. Without great footwork, it’s
quite challenging to excel in the game. Since badminton is a game of high tempo, all moves require excellent
balance, and in the heat of the competition, players need to execute their movements with speed and
effectiveness. Badminton consists of many moves such as shuffling, jumping, gliding, lunging, among
others. These must be done accurately so that players maintain proper balance and remain in control of the
game. Also, adequate footwork allows players to move around the court without falling and slipping, which
reduces the chances of injury.
