Supply and install as indicated on plans one (1) fire pump system consisting of:
1. FIRE PUMP
One Armstrong, SERIES 4600F, Size 6x5x15F double suction horizontal split case fire pump listed by UL/FM having a capacity
of 1500 usgpm for a pressure boost of 151 psi. Suction pressure 1 psi.
Pump casing shall be cast iron, axially split with a 15-degree angle that will minimize NPSH requirements and dimensions. Lower
half shall contain suction and discharge nozzles. Suction and discharge connections shall be on the same elevation. Top half
and rotating element shall be removable without disturbing the piping. Casing shall be fitted with replaceable bronze wearing
rings. Impeller shall be bronze, double suction, enclosed type fully balanced and keyed to an alloy steel shaft. Shaft shall be
fitted with replaceable bronze sleeves. Shaft shall be mounted in two dust tight deep grooves, sealed, and permanently greased
ball bearings.
Bearings shall be mounted in a cartridge type housing so that they shall be replaceable without opening pump casing. Bearings
shall be removable without the need of special tools or bearing puller only by rotating the bearing removal nut.
Each stuffing box shall be fitted with a three-piece bronze split gland. Stuffing box shall be fitted with an extension to facilitate
the packing rings removal. Packing rings shall be removable without disturbing wetted parts or the pump bearings. Water seal
rings made from non-corroding material shall be piped to pump volute.
2. DIESEL ENGINE
The fire pump shall be direct connected through flexible coupling to a diesel engine, manufactured by Clarke, model JU6H-UF52
UL/FM listed and approved with a net continuous rating of 210 hp at 2600 rpm, 0 ft of elevation above sea level. The diesel
engine shall conform to the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Pamphlet #20 and shall be specifically
approved for fire pump service. It shall operate at a rated speed not exceeding the above RPM and shall develop sufficient
horsepower to drive the pump with reserve power.
The cooling water supply for the heat exchanger shall be from the discharge of the pump, taken off prior to the pump discharge
valve. An FM Approved cooling loop to be installed on the engine, per NFPA 20.
B. STORAGE BATTERIES
One set of dual heavy-duty lead acid batteries shall be provided and furnished in a dry charge condition with electrolyte liquid
in separate containers. Suitable battery rack and 60" of battery cables shall be included.
3. FUEL SYSTEM
The fuel system shall include an above ground storage tank, tested and approved to UL 142 and/or ULC S601-07, with a capacity
of 240 US Gallon to meet the recommended sizing per NFPA20 - Fuel supply tanks shall have a capacity at least equal to 1 gal
per HP, plus 5% volume for expansion and 5% volume for sump. The system shall consist of, fill pipe, lockable fill cap, fuel level
gauge, flame arrester, supply line manual cock, return line check valve, drain plug, and tank whistle. Legs for floor mounting,
approved seamless copper tubing, and miscellaneous pipe and fittings shall be supplied by the mechanical contractor.
Fire pump will be hydrostatically tested to a pressure recommended by UL/FM. The fire pump shall be subjected to a performance
test at rated speed. The pump shall furnish not less than 150% of rated capacity at a pressure not less than 65% of rated head.
The shut-off head shall not exceed 140% of rated head. A certified test curve shall be supplied with the pump.
The fire pump manufacturer shall furnish a diesel engine fire pump controller model: GPD-12-120 as manufactured by Tornatech.
The controller shall be UL/FM.
The fire pump controller shall meet the requirements per NFPA20 and shall incorporate the following components:
Two independently functional battery chargers, each having its own power transformer rated for a maximum continuous charge
current of 10 amperes. The charger shall be of solid-state electronic design with a semi-conductor type rectifier, and shall include
the following supervisory and safety features:
a) Current limiting in every charging mode
b) Over-current shut-off
c) Automatic selection of bulk or float charge by battery voltage sensing
d) Lower than 0.5 ampere trickle charge
e) Reverse voltage shut-off
f) Dead cell detection
g) Over and under voltage alarm
h) Charger initiated battery failure alarm with signaling to prevent the use of the defective battery during the engine cranking
(starting) cycle.
All relays shall be equipped with manual test buttons and 'ON' - 'OFF' status indicators and terminal block to indicate the following
engine conditions:
a) Two SPDT contacts for engine running condition
b) One NO/NC contact when the main switch is in the 'AUTO' position
c) One NO/NC contact when the main switch is in the 'MANUAL' or 'OFF' position
d) One SPDT contact indicating engine trouble. The engine trouble condition shall be indicated on engine overspeed, engine
failure to start, low oil pressure, and high coolant temperature conditions
A seven-day pressure recorder shall be provided.
A central annunciator and operator control panel shall be provided inside the controller but visible and accessible through a
breakable glass panel on the enclosure door. This control panel shall incorporate all alarm and status pilot light indicators,
voltmeters, and ammeters for the battery chargers, and the 4 positions main switch manual start push-buttons, combination
Lamptest / Charger reset push-button and the optional 'NORMAL' / 'SILENCE' selector switch for pump room alarms.
