NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY TO HOLD UNITED NATIONS SDGS WORKSHOP

The program has been joined by over 10,000 students to launch awareness and action towards a more
sustainable future.

MARQUETTE, Mich., March 12, 2022 – The United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals Workshop will be
hosted by the Northern Michigan College of Business on March 11 and 12 of 2022. SDGs Launch empowers youth
to become sustainability leaders and environmental catalysts for change through interactive workshops, educational
seminars and empowering keynote speakers.

SDGs Launch is additionally being sponsored by Foundation for Environmental Stewardship, NMU EcoReps, and the
Sustainable Advisory Council at Northern Michigan University. Last October, EcoReps surveyed students at Northern
Michigan University and found that they are most interested in climate action and equity issues. An anonymous
individual on campus stated that “I feel strongly that NMU needs to focus on being a regional leader in social justice
aspects of sustainable communities and institutions”. Hosting this workshop allows students and faculty at NMU to
advance their knowledge in these facets, and make more steps towards a sustainable campus. Participants will learn
about the history, targets and indicators of Sustainable Development Goals, as well as how to employ said goals in
their own communities. Students who complete the workshop series can earn a certificate of completion, an
international credit that can be put on their resume.

What to expect from this event:

• Gain a better understanding of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals

• Connect with multiple UN speakers and Youth Activists
• Challenge yourself during a skills training workshop on how to create action plans to leverage SDGs in your
local community
If the SDGs Launch Workshop is of interest to you, be sure to sign up on the SDGs Lab website, where
additional resources can be found as well. The more individuals who attend this workshop, the higher the
impact will be on the Marquette and NMU community.
