INTRODUCTION:
Transient stability study involves the study of the power system following a major
disturbance following a large disturbance the synchronous alternator the machine power
(Load) angle changes due to sudden acceleration of the rotor shift. The objective of the
transient stability study is to ascertain whether the load angle returns to steady state value
following the clearance of the disturbance
FACTORS AFFECT THE TRANSIENT STABILITY:
The Transient Stability Study is validated with respect to important Electrical
parameters. They are,
1. Angle
2. Frequency
3. Speed

These electrical parameter can be obtained from two important equations,

1. Swing Equation
2. Power Angle Equation

Power Angle Equation:

Power transfer capability curve or also known as power angle equation is,
V1 V2
P= sinδ
XTOTAL

Where,
V1= sending end Voltage
V2= Receiving end Voltage
XTOTAL= synchronous impedance from machine and network (Transmission line
reactance)
δ = Rotor angle
It is applicable only in transmission line

SIMULATION:

Where,
V1= 400 kV
V2= 399.2 kV
X=0.4
Length=200 km
XTOTAL= 0.4/200=80 ohms
Sending δ = 0
Receiving δ = -6.14
δ = 0-(-6.14)=6.14
V1 V2
P= sinδ
XTOTAL

400×399.2
P= sin(6.14)

For Negligible Resistance:

Where,
V1= 400 kV
V2= 409.7 kV
X=0.4
Length=200 km
XTOTAL= 0.4/200=80
Sending δ = 0
Receiving δ =-5.88
δ = 0-(-5.88) = 5.88
V1 V2
P= sinδ
XTOTAL

400×409.7
P= sin(5.88)

P= 209.8592 MW

Observation:
 If Resistance is negligible, Power flow is high
 To increase Power, we should increase the voltage level, where (P ∝ V2)
 Real and Reactive power flow based on Impact of δ

CONCLUSION:
Transient stability of the system can be improved by,
 Increasing the system Voltage
 Increase in the X/R ratio
 Using High-Speed Governors on machine
 High speed fault clearing
 High speed enclosure of circuit breaker
