Chapter 4

Presentation, Analysis, and Research Discussion

This chapter describes the analysis of data followed by a discussion of the research

findings. The findings relate to the research questions that guided the study. Data were analyzed

to identify, describe and explore the effects of lack of learning materials in the education of

grade 12 ABM students at Angeles City Senior High School.

1. Demographic Profile

The background data was collected with the implementation of the questionnaires

through interview as the research instrument. The background data revealed general

demographic characteristics of the Grade 12- ABM Students in terms of their age and gender.

1.1 Age

Results of the age of the Grade 12- ABM student-respondents were obtained from 10

subjects: (5) 17 years old, (3) 18 years old, and (2) 19 years old. On average, the age of the

respondents was 17.7 years old. This implies that most of the senior high school students are in

their middle-adolescence period.

1.2 Gender

In terms of the gender of the Grade 12- ABM student-respondents there are six female

and four male respondent. From the data reported and based on observation the female

population at the ABM strand is larger than those of the male. This shows that ABM is mostly

taken by female students.

2. Effects of the lack of learning materials to students

The effects of the lack of learning materials to student-respondents is divided into three
parts: (1) academic performance, (2) learning experience, and (3) accuracy of lessons.

2.1 Academic Performance

Table 1. General Weighted Average of the Student-Respondents

95-100 7

The researchers asked the respondents to identify their general weighted average (GWA)

for the first semester of the school year to identify if lack of learning materials contribute into the

education itself. If based on the table above, it shows that the respondents are able to surpass

their study despite the lack of learning materials but further with the interview this doesn’t

support their ideas and thoughts in the question “What are the effects of the lack of learning

materials in your academic achievement as a student?”

Respondent A

“Some schools lack of academic materials like, textbooks and even facilities because of this

students are not receiving and learning enough knowledge.”

Respondent B

Respondent C

“Our skills aren't fully develop. I feel like we're behind the education progress of other schools

in Philippines or even out of the country. “

Respondent D

The above statements explains how the students see lack of learning materials in their

education despite the fact that they have a passing and even high GWA, they still consider that

the said issue has an effect in terms of learning. Acquiring not enough knowledge is the most

common answer for this item. This shows that despite the passing and high GWA, these student-

respondents aren’t getting enough knowledge to prepare them in the future.

2.2 Learning Experience

The researchers asked the student-respondents about their learning experience through

the question “How may the lack of learning materials affect your learning experience?”

Respondent A

“For me the new system which is the k-12 is becoming more demanding than the past system.

They keep on saying that this is a preparation for college but we can see that the government is
not ready for it, because other schools especially public schools do not have enough materials

for learning and because of this, instead of students becoming prepared, what is happening is

the other way around. Now, I am an ABM student, but because we don't have books especially

books about our major subjects like accountancy and business I really don't feel like I'm

learning. Information that we get on the internet are not enough.”

Respondent B

Respondent C

“In terms of education in this generation lack of learning materials is quite alarming since K-12

has begun, it affects lots of students especially for those who doesn’t have enough money to

acquire they’re needs in terms of school requirements, it can so much affect they’re lessons

resulting to delay knowledge.”

Respondent D

The above statements presents the sentiments of the student-respondents with regards
their learning experience. Majority claimed that lack of learning materials greatly affects their

experience as a learner. The issue of not acquiring enough knowledge popped again, also some

generated the idea that some are not able to provide for their needs at school and because of the

lack of learning materials and this situation, these students are having a hard time in keeping up

with the others.

2.3 Accuracy of Lessons

The question “What are the effects of lack of instructional materials in the accuracy of

your lessons?” was asked to the respondents for them to identify if the lessons they are studying

accurate and to present their thoughts regarding the topic.

Reapondent A

“As what I've said in question number 3, because we don't have enough books we tend to look

for answers and knowledge on the internet, but not all the information we are getting are true

and legit. It is very important especially to us K-12 students to have textbooks and other

instructional materials for us to have and learn the knowledge we need but sometimes even the

students are the ones making instructional materials which the school should provide.”

Respondent B

Respondent C

“We can't really experience the actual thing, that's why we aren't able to assess the whole

thing.”
Respondent D

This implies that the lessons being presented to student are accurate but they may not be

getting all of it because of the given situation. Overall, the idea of having difficulties in catching

up during discussions or even just studying is the most common idea that these respondent

presents.
