Furniture Company

“Puzzle Inc.” – a well-known furniture company wants to deploy a modern IT system in order
to better manage its personnel and the deliveries of product elements.
1. The company makes business deals with other companies only – we know their
names, NIP, address and (sometimes) the contact telephone number. The companies
can be divided into suppliers and customers (some companies are both suppliers and
customers). For customers, we know the discount for their purchases (in percent).
The discount cannot be higher than 20% and cannot change by more than 5% within
a month. We also know the addresses of all the shops of our customers (a list of
shops for each customer). The company has also a ranking for all the cooperating
companies. The procedure for calculating the position in ranking differs for suppliers
and customers.
2. The company manufactures furniture pieces described by: a unique name, price,
number of work hours required to manufacture it and cost.
3. The furniture piece is manufactured by employees. One of the employees is a
supervisor of group of employees manufacturing a specific furniture type. We know
the employees’ names and PESELs. We also know the hourly rate – identical for all
employees.
4. The furniture pieces are created from basic elements. The elements have names and
prices. There are many types of elements – bolts (length and diameter), wood boards
(thickness, length, width) and so on. A furniture piece may consist of both elements
and other furniture pieces (we want to know, how many of each).
5. The elements are supplied by (surprise) suppliers. A supplier may supply many
different elements. An element can be supplied by up to six companies. For each
element we remember the information about last shipment from each supplier (date,
amount, unique number).
6. The customers place orders for furniture. The order is described by a unique number,
date of placement and time to shipment, as well as the amount of each pieces of
furniture ordered. To be valid, the order has to have total price of more than 10K.
Road Repairs Company.

A road repairs company specializes in repairing Warsaw’s public roads.

1. The company employs many construction workers (described by name, surname,
date of birth and employment date). Every construction worker has a specialty that
corresponds to a position he/she has.
2. Construction workers work in teams (brigades). Each brigade has at most 15
employees and is supervised by a brigadier – each brigadier has only one brigade to
manage. Brigadier is a person with at least 10 years of work experience.
3. Every construction worker in order to carry out his/hers tasks is assigned equipment
(described by id number, name and last inspection date). Equipment is divided into
light and heavy. Light equipment may be used by any worker. Heavy equipment may
be used only by workers with proper specialty.
4. Employee may have either up to three light pieces of equipment or one heavy piece
of equipment assigned to him.
5. The equipment has to be inspected for safety reasons – heavy equipment once every
six months, light – once every two years.
6. The repair schedule has to be stored by the system – for each repair we store the
information about street name and – if only a part of the street will be repaired – the
plot numbers corresponding to the start and end of repaired segment. We also need
to know, which brigade (or brigades) have been assigned to the repair, what are the
planned and real start and end dates for the repair.
7. Repairs use materials – described by name, and price per unit. For each repair we
need to store the information about use of materials (the fact of the material being
used and the quantity used)
8. The company also employs inspectors (described by name, surname, date of birth
and employment date). Each repair is overseen by an inspector. After the repair is
completed, the responsible inspector has to make an assessment of the repair – in
form of a short text.
9. The system should provide information about
a. Currently available brigades
b. Repairs scheduled for next month
c. Roads that are being repaired at this moment
