Literature Review

There are many people in this world that work with agriculture in their everyday lives.

More than 1 billion pounds of food are consumed daily by the population just in America, which

does not even include other countries that farmers in the United States must produce food for.

What would our society be like today if we had not had establishments of farm equipment and

continuous growth in mass food production, with only 1.3% of the U.S. population being

farmers?

According to License to Farm - Official Documentary, farmers today are still facing the

same challenges that the farmers in the past have faced. Those challenges consist of weather, soil

fertility, pests, and commodity prices. While they are still dealing with these issues the farms of

this era are dramatically different from the past. Farms today are large and complex enterprises

with lots of technology. Over the years there have also been many breakthroughs in

communications, genetics, and chemistry. Thanks to these breakthroughs we have been able to

grow our food faster with less energy and less environmental impact. Due to these achievements,

many people are wondering if technology has made our food different.

Based on information from the USDA, United States farmers have had a complicated

economic climate of the past years for farming to be profitable. For America to remain the world

leader in crop production, the USDA conducts agricultural research to maintain the best way

possible to produce crops. The USDA has also partnered with many other organizations to keep

the American industry in agriculture the best it can be.

While most of this information is about the United States, the Ohio Department of

Agriculture also plays a significant role in local food production. When we began to think about

how much America feeds in total, Ohio is not that far behind America as a whole. In 2020 the

agriculture market in Ohio was at 8.3 billion dollars, the crop market exceeded 4.9 billion

dollars, and animal and animal products exceeded 3.4 billion dollars. That is a lot for Ohio when

compared to America.

The United States is considered number 1 in Agriculture production because of all the

Trade Agreements we have with other countries. The U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement went into

effect on January 1, 2020. The U.S. Congress was not necessary, because the trade setup was not

a full trade agreement meaning that there were no substantive changes to present U.S. law. U.S.

farmers and ranchers export almost $12 billion every year in agricultural products to Japan, this

makes it the fourth-largest export destination for American farm and ranch products.

Innovative agricultural technology has revitalized urban agriculture into innovative

urban agriculture. As we look at the world right now the is a major increase in population than

there was about 100-200 years ago and there is still a lot of poverty. For the past couple of years,

the agricultural industry as a whole has been trying to condense the amount of people/ the

population of people in poverty.

In conclusion, the agricultural industry has had many improvements and achievements

over the past couple of years. We have made a trade agreement with Japan, America has been

recognized as the no. 1 crop and agriculture product producer in the world, and we are slowly

trying to help end poverty. It is particularly important that we keep up with the crop and

agriculture products production.
