Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title:
Let’s Count!!
Objectives:
Students will be able to… Count to 100 by ones and tens.
Students will be able to… Start from random numbers between 1 and 99 to finish counting to
100.
State Standards:
K.NS.1 Count forward by ones and tens to 100.
K.NS.2 Count forward by ones beginning from any number less than 100.
Context: I am teaching this lesson so that my kindergarten students can reach the yearly goal of
being able to count to 100 before first grade. The unit as a whole starts with learning how to
count and write the basic 0-9 and then putting them together to make bigger numbers. After this
lesson, we will use the numbers we have learned to count with to make word problems and
identify the number of objects presented to them. I am putting the lessons in order from simple to
complex and using the apps to make sure their progress is flowing as it should.
Data:
Students will be grouped with a variety of learning levels. Students who need more help will be
in groups with students whose understanding is greater. Sometimes it is easier for students to
build on each other rather than the teacher always correcting them. The data will be based on
worksheets and app data from the previous lesson where we checked our understanding of
numbers at the end of the lesson. We will do a similar check-in for this lesson also so that groups
can be made for the next section.
Materials:
App and worksheets.

Detailed paragraphs from here on down.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes):
During the introduction, I will discuss what groups the students will be with and what their
assignment is in these groups. The groups will have time to work on the three sections of the
lesson I have put together. The first section includes counting to 100 and practicing writing the
numbers on the worksheet. The next section will be a worksheet where there is a start number,
87 for example, and the student must finish counting to 100 from the number given while
working together. In the last section, they will use the app “1-100, One Number at a Time” to
check their progress and see if there is a point they reach where they cannot go any further.
Teacher-Directed (15 minutes):
I will spend time with each group asking about the questions they may have, making sure they
can access the app, and helping in whatever ways I feel are specific to that group. I will begin
working on the second worksheet so they will have a teacher’s example to go by.
Collaborative (10 minutes):
During the collaboration with their groups, they will complete the worksheets for
counting/writing and finishing the sequences. This gives the students who may be struggling
some support from their peers. Feedback and help from peers will be more beneficial for students
in this age group because it seems less like adults around them only correct their flaws. They will
build more confidence in the subject if they feel like they put in the work themselves.
Independent Digital (10 minutes):
For the independent section, the students will use the school-provided iPads to access the app “1-
100, One Number at a Time.” This app requires students to select the numbers in the correct
order before moving on. If they get stuck on a number, their progress ends there until they select
the correct number. This app saves their progress so that the teacher can see who made it to 100
and who got stuck and exactly where they are stuck.
Closure (5minutes):
For closing, we would come together as a class on the carpet to ask any leftover questions, get
feedback on how the students feel, if they enjoyed the assignments, and if there is anything they
want to be done differently in the future or something they struggled with, etc. This gives the
teacher an opportunity to collect their iPads as they discuss and see if there are any changes that
should be made in the next lesson to better the class’s experiences.
Rationale: You must have at least two paragraphs (one for each mandatory piece of
multimedia)

Multimedia One – 1-100, One Number at a Time. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/1-to-100-help-

your-kids-learn-to-count-to-100-one-number/id651635622
I chose this app because it allows the students to practice counting from 1-to 100 and requires the
student to select the correct order so there is no chance of confusion. It is also helpful for the
teacher because the app tracks the student’s progress. This app supports the students
accomplishing counting to 100 which goes along with the two standards I chose as far as 100
being the destination number. I went through the ratings and the details the writers provided to
know the exact pros and cons and decided that this app was right for what I wanted to use it for.
This app incorporates all types of learning and assistive needs. It can be read allowed for the
students, it can be hands-on, and provides colors and transition for visual learners. This app
provides a little bit of everything for each individual user.
Multimedia Two – I chose to use two worksheets for the original counting and writing numbers
and the second task of continuing the sequence. I chose to use something on paper because this
progress cannot be lost if the app crashes and I can revisit it at any time. I can also make a copy
of the student’s progress for the parents to keep along with the original for the teacher’s file. The
worksheet can be edited and changed based on the lesson details covered. I found this idea to be
a good idea based on websites where teachers have shared worksheets that worked well for them
with different subject areas.
