Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Counting Forward and Backwards

Objectives:
Students will be able to list numbers in groups of 5 and 10 to reach 100
Students will be able to explain how they reached 100 by what pattern they followed
State Standards:
1.NSBT.1 Extend the number sequence to:

a. count forward by ones t 120 starting at any number

b. Count by fives and tens to 100, starting at any number

1.NSBT.5 Determine the number that is 10 more or 10 less than a given number through 99 and explain
the reasoning verbally and with multiple representations including concrete models.

Context:
In this lesson, I will first teach students how to count by 5s. After They master 5s we will
move on to counting by 10s. After understanding 5 and 10s they will work on counting to
100 by both of those patterns. Before learning this material, students must be able to count
to 100 by 1s and know their numbers. Students will bring their previous knowledge of
counting and the number line. We are learning this lesson to be able to add numbers
together.
Data:
Students will be grouped based on their previous knowledge of counting by 10 and 5. Students who
share the same knowledge will be paired together. The students who show a lot of previous knowledge
and are excelling at counting will work together while the ones who need a little more help with be put
together. Before the lesson, students will be asked to complete a pretest showing what information
they know before the lesson. After the lesson is completed students will complete a post-test displaying
the information they just learned. The pretest and post-test will show how well the students learned
information during the lesson. The data collected will show if the grouping was beneficial to student
success. Having students take a pre and posttest the data will show if the students retained knowledge
through group activities.

Materials:
-Math packets
- Pencils
-Pretest
-3 table stations
-Numbers in bin
-Paper
-numbers around the room
-number cards
-computer

-Blackboard

Detailed paragraphs from here on down.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes):
Once students are situated in their seats the board will ask them to get out their math packets and flip
to the page on counting by 10s and 5s. The students will wait for further instruction.I will hand out a pre
test that they will complete. I will explain the background information on counting. I will then explain
the three stations and the responsibilities they have at each station.

Teacher Directed (10 minutes):

Students will sit around the circle table and will be asked to pick a number out of the bin. Once students
picked the number, they will be asked to write it down on a piece of paper. The students will then pick
another number either 10 or 5. I will then instruct the students to increase their number by either 10 or
5. The students will then show me their answers and I will tell them if it is correct or incorrect. Students
who got it right will then increase their number again. Going through the same process. Students who
get it incorrect will be asked to do it again and will be assisted. I will then explain the step they are
getting wrong.

Collaborative (10 minutes):

In this section, the students will work together to solve a hands-on activity. I will have numbers set up
around the room in order but missing some numbers in between. Students will be given a stack of cards
that they will be asked to put on the wall in the correct missing place. Students will work together on if
the number is going by 10 or 5. Once they place a number, they will ask me to check it. If the students
are wrong, they will be sent back to find the correct number.

Independent Digital (10 minutes):

In this section, students will sit at a computer and will watch this video. https://youtu.be/32A29RzUrgU
Linked on their Blackboard page and will answer a couple questions that go along with the video. They
will then try to couple from 5s to 100 and 10s to 100. Students will also participate in a kahoot finishing
the number sentence.

Closure (10 minutes):

I will ask students to put everything away such as the packet and technology. We will review the lesson
and what they learned by practicing counting by 10s and 5s. The students will then be handed a post-
test and will be asked to complete it before leaving. The post-test will ask students to fill in blanks and
circle correct answers. After the test is completed and all are turned in I will pass out a homework page
of 10 questions on counting that will be due the next day.

Rationale: You must have at least two paragraphs (one for each mandatory piece of
multimedia)
Multimedia- YouTube
I chose YouTube because it is a great resource for educational videos. It supports
student learning because it allows students to participate and interact with videos.
Using LORI criteria I believe that YouTube is great for some instructional activities
in the classroom. B3. Screen Design I scored it at a 5, for having text, graphics,
sound and speech that enhances the content.
Multimedia – Kahoot
I chose Kahoot because it allows students to interact and play competitively. This
app supports student learning because it gives feedback if they got the answer
correct or not. Using the LORI criteria I think that Kahoot is a great instructional
resource. A.5 Feedback to Teacher I rate it a 5 because at the end of the game it
gives a detail report of the students progress.
