Narrative Week 14

This week was the first week back from Oak Hill’s spring break. We started the week off

with volleyball and teaching the students the basics of the sport. On Monday, we started doing

drills that consisted of serving and passing to familiarize the students with the different skills

needed for the sport. On Tuesday, we taught them the rules and how to set up and rotate. Then,

for the rest of the week, we played various volleyball games with the students and allowed them

to put what they learned in practice into play.

Volleyball has been fun to watch the students get into the game and interact with one

another. This sport has brought students to participate who do not always like to which has been

rewarding to see. I even played a few games with each of the classes which encouraged the

students even more. The second seventh grade class has been one of my favorites to play with.

The girls are really sweet, and I have enjoyed getting to be teammates for the week with them. In

addition to playing with the students, I also had a really cool conversation with one of the eighth-

grade girls. It was not anything deep, but she just wanted a friend and someone to talk to. I got to

ask questions just about her life and who she was, and she asked questions about college and

what I wanted to do in the future. Conversations like this encourage me and affirm my desire to

work with students. One of my goals coming into the semester was to impart any wisdom and

advice to the students and help train them to become mature young adults. Although I will not be

with them for much longer, I can confidently say and leave the program that I gave it my all.

Finally, I continued working on my reflection paper this week, and I was able to

complete the assignment before leaving town for Easter weekend. I enjoyed writing it as it

allowed me to think back on everything this semester. As the weeks dwindle away, I really am
going to miss coming here. I hope to keep some of these connections after I leave, and I am

looking forward to what is to come.
