Narrative Week 9

This week was about like most weeks. We continued on with handball and netball to

allow the students to continue getting used to the new sports. They seemingly have grown to like

both the sports now that they have learned how to play them well. On Monday, the students in A

block had to go to the theater to continue part two of their “No Place for Hate.” They learned

what activism was and had a few short discussion questions to answer with one another.

We had quite a couple fights break out this week in the hallways and during bus duty.

Those students received suspension where the number of days suspended depended on how

many fights they previously had been in. Overall, the students have seemed to warm up to me a

lot. There are even a few students that always come up to me and give me a hug before class

starts. It really is sweet, and I have grown to love getting to play and interact with all the students

every day. There are still a few students who make comments and remarks to me, especially

when we have extra classes and those students do not know who I am. However, I just let it roll

off my back.

Not only have I gotten closer with the students, but I also have grown closer with my

supervisor, Dana Peterson. We have gotten to know each other better as the semester has gone

on. It has been fun just hearing about her life, learning from her, and supporting her coaching

skills during her soccer games. This week they had two soccer games, one on Tuesday and one

on Thursday. They won both days too!

I have learned a lot from Oak Hill so far, and it is only the middle of the semester. I did

not think I would learn so much in such a short amount of time, but I truly am so grateful for the

opportunity to intern here. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this semester holds and what else
I am going to learn. I am excited to continue to grow and mature in my skills as I draw near to

graduation.
