The student believes they were successful because assignments had clear requirements and outlines. They can apply skills learned to be successful at work. Their favorite packet was on workplace correspondence because it closely related to their field of agriculture. I saw many improvements in my writing throughout the semester. Many of the
improvements come from better organization and clear grammar within my projects. Before this course, I was very unorganized, and I found it overwhelming on larger projects. The preparation documents and peer discussion have been very helpful in keeping my thoughts straight for each packet, as well as making sure I have all the information needed before starting the packet. I enjoyed being able to see the constructive criticism from each student which helped me edit my documents. The course gave a great overview of many different types of English requirements. My goal for this course was to have a better understanding of English as a whole and receive an A in the course. I did meet one of my goals and hope to earn the second. I believe this is because there were clear and concise requirement and outline for each packet. I can use the tools and skills learned to be successful in a work environment and I think that is why I am most proud of the workplace correspondence packet. My workplace packet was closely related to my field of work in Agriculture, so I’m very glad to see how I can be successful in writing an email and memo. I believe this is one of the most beneficial packets for each student and something everyone can carry with them to their workplace. If I could add any assignment to the course, I’d choose to make a packet on project plans for a related work field. Very similar to the workplace correspondence packet, but not necessarily a problem within the organization. For example, a company is planning on expanding their territory or expanding their building. A student could make a project plan for the company executives on intended plans of actions including development, deadlines, execution, and monitoring of said project. I think it would be easier for students to choose their related work field, so they are not overwhelmed in making a project plan for something they have no idea about. This may be another way to prepare students for life after college. If I could edit any assignment in the course, I would edit the portfolio packet or the instructions packet. If the portfolio packet is open for the entire semester, instead of only the last week, I think it would allow students to make better website designs. Also, it might be difficult for some students to go back and edit assignments from the beginning of the semester and try to remember their process for each packet. I know this project is intended to be the final for the class, but if it was open for the student to view for the entire semester there might be higher quality projects. I think the instructions packet could also be something related to the reaction book of choice. I am not suggesting making it a harder, but I think this would also generate higher quality instructions.
