Subject: Decreasing our Water Usage

This report points out the emphasis on how much water is wasted each day, and what that does to
the environment and surrounding ecosystems. The purpose is to persuade Rexroth associates to
partake in water conservation to help protect the planet and prevent the waste of this limited
resource. There are several areas in which Americans unknowingly waste water, which will be
addressed in detail. It will also be noted what steps that Bosch Rexroth as a company is doing to
combat this issue, and how each employee can act to help save Earth’s environment.

Summary
Throughout our daily lives, the average American wastes around thirty gallons of water. This
causes unnecessary time and energy spent to provide this wasted water to our plant and to treat
the water after we have wasted it. To produce this energy, there is a lot of pollution that goes
along with it. Therefore, it is crucial that we take initiative plant-wide to limit the amount of
water that we waste. To do so we all must be mindful of the amount of water we consume and
waste. This can be done by evaluating one’s own water usages and implementing some of the
various suggestions to which we can limit wastewater. Bosch Rexroth is investing in certain
technologies to help limit that amount of wastewater that we produce, but it will take all our
conscious efforts to cause a change.

Limiting our Wastewater

Why it Matters
Even though majority of earth is covered by water, only 3% of it is fresh water, and only a third
of that is accessible because the rest is locked in ice caps and glaciers. Since this little amount of
water must be used by the entire planet, we must be mindful of the amount of water that we
consume. Also, when we limit our water usage, we limit our carbon footprint. To provide houses
and businesses with clean water, there is a certain amount of energy that goes into doing so. This
energy is produced through process like burning fossil fuels, which produces pollution into the
atmosphere. Therefore, the less water we waste, the less pollution that we put into the
environment.
What Bosch Rexroth is doing to limit wastewater
There are several steps that the company is taking to consciously decrease the amount of water
that is wasted each day. The first action that we are taking is to change out all the faucets to a
more water-efficient one. These faucets contain aerators which restrict flow to use less water. We
are also in the process of switching out the toilets to reduce water consumption as well.
Currently, the water-cooling system that is used on a lot of our manufacturing machines is
manually operated. Soon, this system will be switched to an automatic system that only turns on
when the cutting process is taking place. This will prevent the water-cooling system from
running at unnecessary times, and it will prevent the operator from accidentally leaving the
system on. These are a couple examples that Bosch Rexroth is putting in place to help limit the
water wasted, but it will also require action of our associates to make a difference.
What you can do
There are several actions that we can be conscious of each day to help limit the wastewater we
use here at the workplace. For example, when washing your hands, you can turn the water off as
you scrub your hands so that the water is not running for without your hands under it. Also, if
you are washing your dishes in the breakroom, be mindful not to leave the sink running if you
are not actively rinsing off your dishes. Another way that we can be mindful of our water usage
is by only using the necessary amount of water when making coffee or tea. Lasty, be sure to
notify the human resources department if you notice any faucets, toilets, or water fixtures with
leaks, so that we can put an end to any unnecessary water loss. These are very simple practices
that we can put into place to help preserve our environment for decades to come.

Conclusion
To successfully tackle this issue and make a noticeable impact on our environment, it will
require action from everyone. Even though Bosch Rexroth is taking precautions to limit wasted
water, it will take every employee being mindful of their water consumption. Together we can
make a difference today so that we can live a better future.

Recommendations
To have an effect, we all must partake these actions to conserve our water usage. This means that
we all must evaluate ourselves and find parts of our lives where we can attempt to conserve
water. Also, if you have and suggestions or comments as to how we can better limit the amount
of water we waste, I am interested to hear what you have to say, and hopefully we can implement
them in our water saving process.
