Student Reflection (Thoroughly answer all questions)
How has this clinical rotation helped to define your role as a nurse? Please explain.

This acute care clinical rotation gave me a variety of different experiences. I was able to care for all types of patients while
enhancing my critical thinking skills as well as getting better with prioritizing my care. I only have home health experience so this
clinical experience has given me more inpatient experience in a structured environment.

How did you specifically meet the course goals for this course? Give detail for each. (Reminder, course goals are listed on the
evaluation here in blue).
I was able to analyze the effectiveness of my plan of care by doing a morning assessment and monitoring my patient throughout
the day to see if my nursing interventions produced a favorable outcome for my patient. I sought out opportunities to promote my
professional growth by going to nurses and asking questions and looking into resources that were told to me to help me in school
as well as my future practice. I provided patient centered care with my clinical instructor as a resource by talking through the
patient's priority as well as my interventions and at the end of the day we discussed how the patient responded to the
interventions and what could have been done differently if need be. Lastly, I implemented nursing care based on scientific
evidence by look at how other patients are treated with the same conditions and incorporating that into my nursing care for that
patient while on the unit.

What is the biggest take away you have from this clinical rotation and how will that affect your future practice?

During this clinical rotation I was able to talk to both a wound nurse, and an IV nurse and both gave me some valuable information
for my future practice. I really want to become a certified wound nurse so the inservice she gave was very helpful in defining what
she does in the acute care setting. She also talked about the types of dressings you should use for certain types of wounds and I
will most definitely incorporate that into my future practice.

What are your goals for your next clinical rotation?

My goals for my next clinical rotation is to get more experience with medication administration. I will always welcome the
opportunity to sharpen my medication administration skills all while learning more information about medications and why they
are specifically prescribed for my patient.
Faculty Comments/ Student Learning Goals (Goals must be established even if performance is satisfactory. If an item was
identified as N or U, narrative comments are necessary to clarify student performance along with goals to improve performance).

Marquita,
Thoughtful reflection above. I am so glad wound care is of interest to you. I think very highly of our wound care nurses.
Since your present work takes you to home care it is helpful to have the acute care experience to round out your skills.
I only had you in clinical for 2 weeks but saw strengths in your abilities. Based on your assessment you set appropriate outcomes
and implemented nursing actions to achieve those goals. Medication administration was effective, safe, knowledgeable, and
accurate.
You take responsibility for your own learning, look for new opportunities each day and research topics when needed. I observe
