Mock Interview Reflection

1. What steps did you take to prepare for the mock interview?
-I reviewed the sample interview questions as well as prepared my responses to them. Then
I practiced answering them out loud to my sister.

2. How did you feel while you were being interviewed?

-When I did the mock interview with my mother I was very nervous because I treated it as if
it were an actual interview. I was a bit shaky and began to stutter a bit but then I took a
deep breath and conducted the interview with more confidence than I started.

3. Reflect on your actual responses. Did you feel your responses were adequate or could you
have done better? Explain.
-I feel my responses were adequate but there were some points that I forgot to mention in
my explanations. I could have done better when I was asked if I had any questions for the
interviewer. I should have prepared better for that question so I could’ve asked all the
questions I wanted to at that moment.

4. What questions do you feel you answered well? Explain.

I feel I answered the questions about my career goals as well as why I would be an asset to
the company pretty well. I also answered the questions about my successes in leadership
positions such as in dance and teaching opportunities with detail and confidence.

5. What questions do you feel you could have answered better? How would you have
answered them differently?
-I could have answered the question about my biggest failure better. My response could
have been more thought out and I should’ve spent more time reflecting and preparing to
answer this question. I could have answered the question about how I deal under pressure
differently. I could have responded more directly and clearly.

6. What areas did your teacher mark as strengths?

-I had my mom mark the review of the interview and she marked the areas of first
impressions and appearance and the verbal communication as strengths. I made a good first
impression by dressing respectfully and cleanly while keeping eye contact and giving a firm
handshake. My verbal communication was a strength because I avoided long pauses,
excessive stuttering, and veering off topic.

7. What areas did your teacher mark as needing improvement? In what ways do you plan to
improve your performance in these areas?
-I need improvement in areas such as body language. When I get nervous I tend to find that
my body language reflects my nerves. I need to learn to control the message my body is
giving off. I plan to improve my performance in this area by practicing more and more on
how to conduct myself during an interview. I can do this by conducting more mock
interviews and putting myself in situation where body language is important to control.
