The Village of the Watermill

1. According to the old man, why have they chosen not to use electricity?

 The old man said they don't need electricity in their village. They use
candles to light their house at night and cows dunk as their source of fuel.
He also said that night was supposed to be dark in order for them to
appreciate the beauty of the stars in the sky that's why they chose not to
use electricity in their village.  

2. Is the reason he gives still apparent today with other forms of modern
technology?

 No, the reason he gives is not apparent today with other forms of modern
technology. In today's life people cannot longer live without the
technologies. It is true that technologies make humans life easier but some
technologies that were invented are harmful not only to the environment
but also to human health. There are some technologies that produce too
much pollution that harm nature.

3. Is the film critical of scientists - if so, in what way?

 I think no, the film is not critical to the scientists. Since then, people are
aiming for a better life that's why scientists continue to find ways on how
their lives become better and have a convenient living. Scientists have
done a huge factor in why we have a better living today. Because of them
we have better technology that makes our lives more convenience. We so
much patronize the newly invented technologies today. The film cannot
just change the mind of people to remove the technologies in their life and
live in a natural way that's like how the people in the village live. 
4. Based on the film, is S&T really necessary to attain "the good life"?

 No, based on the film, science and technology is not really necessary to
attain “the good life” just like what the film shows, they live without
electricity, fuel and a few technologies. People in their village live in a
natural way with nature yet they are happy and peacefully living in that
kind of way of life. The film tells us that we don't need so much technology
to attain a good life, just what the old man said in the film, humans only
need clean water and air to live, that we should live in the natural way. He
also said that scientists invented what makes a person unhappy in the end,
that technology gives us temporary happiness unlike living in a simple way
with a few technologies where we need to work in order to attain a good
life that gives us a memorable happiness.
