Weekly Journal

1/11-1/15

This was oujr very week of the internship. With that being said our main focus on this week was

to learn about the responsibilities and what this internship has in store for us this semester. We

did a mini tour around the athletics building and began introducing ourselves to the respected

athletic staff. Also during this week, specifically on our second day, we was put to work at a

home basketball game. We was taught on what needs to be setup and how long it will take and

what each gameday operations assignment for basketball was.

1/18-1/21

We began this week by everyone getting together and planning on the upcoming basketball

games. Not only that but we also was trying to come up with many ways to try and raise money

for athletics. Also during this week we were told to choose which sports we wanted to cover for

the rest of the semester. I chose to do track & field and tennis. With selecting those sports, I was

tasked to design the graphics for them along with assisting with the other sports as well.

1/24-1/29

This week started off with us having some important and heavy detailed meetings about changes

that needed to be made to the academic calendar. Also this double header basketball game was
the real test to see if we could handle adversity. It was a heavily intensed and stressful game

against Livingstone due to us raising the amount of fans allowed within the C.E. Gaines Center.

1/31-2/5

We was tasked with planning for National Women’s and Girls in sports day. That was on top of

having to setup, do our responsibilities, and break down for the double header against Bowie

State. Then we had received the banners for the championship teams that WSSU had within the

past few years. Then we had to be prepared for the double header against Saint Augustine. Also I

had to designed the graphics for all the high school signees for football.

2/7-2/13

This week our focus was on being prepared for the Fayetteville State game on the 12th due to us

knowing how big this rivalry is. Had to design many graphics for this game due to how big this

game was. Also our first day of working the CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship was the

13th.

2/14-2/18

This week we worked the final day of the CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship which was

a major learning experience. I had even been offered to get certified as a Track official. Then we

was informed that we had to start planning the Student-Athlete Banquet that is to take place

towards the end of the semester. We had to present our ideas infront of S.A.A.C representatives

and administrators.

2/21-2/23
Due to the CIAA basketball tournament that was located in Baltimore, we had a few days off.

But we still designed the graphics that was needed and also showed our support to our men’s and

women’s basketball team. Also had to assist with the golf tournament at Maple Chase Golf

course.

2/28-3/5

At the beginning of the week we had to clean out the football shed at Civitan Park to see what

inventory is needed and not needed to prepare for spring football. Also we became golf cart

certified by doing training on how to properly operate the golf carts on campus. This was done so

we could easily transport things from the fieldhouse to Gaines gym.

3/7-3/11

We had to move around the weights in the weight room in the fieldhouse and Whitaker so they

could put down new floors in the weight rooms. After the floors was installed and the new

benches came in for the fieldhouse, we had to go back and organized the weights and create a

new look.

3/14-3/19

At the beginning of this week we had prepared for the softball games. Due to the weather

conditions and the condition of the field we had postpone the games due to the amount of rain.

3/21-3/26

We were tasked on handing out equipment to all the eligible football players for spring football

on Monday. Since I made the decision to continue playing, I also received my equipment. In

order to hand out the equipment, we had to learn the entire process of measuring, sizing for
helmets, and issuing the lockers. This Saturday was our very first Tennis match after canceling

multiple games.

3/28-4/1

This week we had to meet with Coach Gray to go over our ideas on the banquet and get her

feedback and decide on what may needed to be changed. Not only meeting with her, we had

other meetings this week to just go over what needed to be done for the upcoming events we had

on the calendar.

4/4-4/9

This week we had a Tennis match against North Carolina A&T State University, but due to me

having practice I was not able to attend and assist with setup but I was able to assist with

breaking down.

4/11-4/16

This week there was Softball game, which was a double header, against Johnson C. Smith along

with a Tennis match against Livingstone College. During this week we had a Ribbon Cutting

Ceremony to present the changes being made at Bowman Gray Stadium.

4/18-4/23

During this week I had to make multiple graphics to hype up the spring game. Due to me

continue playing, I was participating in the Spring Game instead of working it.

4/25-4/30
This week we spent the entire week searching for all the needed items for the banquet. With the

success of finding what we needed, we had a great time with setting up and running the show. It

turned out to be very fun due to the great amount of athletes who showed up dressed to impress.
