Self-Analysis

Stepping into my internship, I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into. The

only skills that I really had at the time was critical thinking skills, digital marketing skills, and a

little bit of experience dealing with designing graphics. The only reason I had any experience

with designing graphics was from using apps on my phone. So with that being said you could tell

I didn’t have many strengths and I had a fair share of weaknesses that needed to be worked on.

My experience in the internship with Winston-Salem State University(WSSU) helped me better

myself professionally and eliminate some weaknesses. Stepping into the internship I was looking

to develop myself to be ready with high confidence and well-needed skills for any career

opportunity the sport industry had to offer. I was looking to better my creativity and my

communication the most, because those are two major critical skills needed for basically any

career within the field of work.

I was always told the sports industry is not so easy to work in. But being the type of

person I am, I only had to find out by myself if it wasn’t so easy. At the beginning of the

internship of course I had faced many challenges. I didn’t know how to do certain stuff that was

needing to be done, especially during gamedays. Also I had to voice my opinion within meetings

we had, in which I wasn’t comfortable with doing that at all. Although it was just in front of

other interns and staff members I would speak to around campus, it was still hard for me due to

me not being the best at public speaking. Not only was that was a notable challenge, me only
having a limited knowledge on graphic designing was a struggle at first as well. But I was able to

adapt very well and develop the confidence I was hoping to gain from the beginning. My work

started to get better and I honestly started feeling like I had been doing that type of work for

years.

To conclude my self-analysis, this internship was very beneficial to me and I learned so

much from the experience. The skills I have improved or developed is the perfect skills I needed

to help me with any of the career opportunities I will receive in the future. I honestly can say

WSSU Athletic Department gave me the best opportunity to look at my weakness professionally

and overcome them and grow. My time as an intern with WSSU Athletic Department will

honestly never be forgotten.
