Item 2. Write Duolingo Journal Entry #3. Pretend that a child in your classroom wrote that
entry to you. Write a brief (2-3 sentences) response to the child.
I was able to get into the silver league on Duolingo. I am starting to get harder words
that I don’t know. I like there is a heart feature so I can’t just race through things if I
don’t know it. Overall, I am still enjoying the experience and am trying to maintain
my streak every week.
When learning a new language, it can be difficult to always succeed, especially when
you don’t have any prior knowledge about the new language you are learning. Being
able to advance to a league shows that you are committed to learning the new
language. Pacing is very important when learning a new language because it takes
many years of practice to learn a language to a level that you can consider yourself
fluent. Keep working hard and practicing every day, you’ve got this!
Item 3. Compare your Duolingo Journal Entry #1 with #12.
In my first journal entry I said that I was already a moderate Spanish speaker with prior
knowledge from high school Spanish and my father. I have never previously used Duolingo daily,
but I was excited to learn more of a language I was familiar with. In my 12 th journal entry, I said
how I was able to continue my lessons with better accuracy and completing 3 lessons daily. I was
also in the ruby league which showed how far I have progressed since the beginning of this
journal.
Item 5. Are you considering continuing with Duolingo after the requirement in this course (no
pressure, just curious)? Yes
Item 6. What would you say is one of the biggest challenges for someone in learning a new
language?
The biggest challenge I would say for someone learning a new language is time. I consider myself
to be a very busy person on campus and am involved in many things. Sometimes I would have
free time to complete multiple lessons a day and sometimes I found it difficult to complete any
lessons.
