Dialogue:

Emma: Hello, good morning, doctor, how are you? He is my son Jacob!

Psychologist: Good morning, Emma ... Woow is a very cute boy, tell me why you were were you
sent with me.

Emma: Doctor, what is happening is that I am very worried, because my son is not walking does
not walk yet and he recently turned one year old, but he also does not point to ask for what he
wants or wave goodbye.

Is that usually normal at that stage my son is in, a doctor?

Psychologist: Emma, the first thing you should know is that your son is going through the
childhood stage. This stage is made up of 4 aspects, the first is the motor, which is when the baby
begins to lift its head and begins to prepare for crawling, already in the cognitive part, the baby
attends to both visual and sound stimuli, in development language, the baby communicates with
crying and smiles, and in social development, a dependence on parents and close people is
generated. Already Almost from 6 to 12 months, the baby is in the motor development stage had
so he has to crawl, and try to stand up, in the cognitive development phase, the baby has a
favorite toy and increases his independence, his curiosity about things from the outside, with
regard to language development the baby begins to say his first words, like mom and dad and
already in terms of social development, the baby shows more interest in groups, tries to relate to
groups.

Emma: Doctor, the truth is that my son has had a slow development and that is what scares me
since my concern began since he was 8 months old and still did not crawl, or for example now that
he has trouble standing when I help him and mainly, I've noticed that he still doesn't use gestures
like shaking his head or pointing at things. It really scares me to think that my son if he has a
problem!

Psychologist: Well, Jacob probably has a psychomotor retardation.

Emma: It can't be a doctor, and then what should I do if my son is still very young.
Psychologist: Take it easy Emma, the good news is that by detecting it early it can be controlled
and provide a good quality of life since the stimulation during the first years of life is really very
good, so I am going to refer you to pediatrics to confirm the diagnosis and to be able to carry out
more tests that help us to give you a better quality of life.

Emma: Ok doctor, thank you very much I will do my best so that my son is well, see you soon and I
will be letting you know! Let you now any change he has.

Psychologist: Ok Emma, I will be aware of Jacob's process, and I will give you the proper
accompaniment to you and your baby. That they are very well and see you soon.
