1. Choose one of the theme parks and describe features of the layout that
you notice, including which attractions and stores/restaurants are located
near each other.
After exploring some of the attractions at Walt Disney World, I finally chose the
“Magic Kingdom Park”, this theme park is described as lands of endless
enchantment, where your fantasy becomes a reality. I choose this one because I
think its one of the most interesting places of the whole park.
One of the most important attraction in this site is the Cinderella Castle, it’s an
area that illuminates the park with a dazzling glow, a place who remembers you of
Cinderella. Another important attraction is named “it’s a small world”, it’s an area
where you can enjoy a nice boat ride, also the “Jungle Cruise” another boat tour,
and the “Haunted Mansion” a labyrinth of haunted chambers, all of these
attractions have some features of the layout, for example the space. Each one
has a considerable amount of space, which helps the attractions to be attractive to
people.
And finally, I notice a lot of restaurants in all the park, I can say that most of the
different places of the area are restaurants, which is interesting.
I think this is a layout strategy, because people often look for food, so having a lot
of restaurants around the theme park makes people to consume, because its not
necessary for them to walk much for a restaurant, because there is a lot of them
and really close to each other.

2. What layout features appear to be particularly customer-friendly?

Some of the layout features that appear to be particularly customer-friendly are
some considerations on the area, for example the higher utilization of the space.
In this theme park there is a good distribution of space, they use every little space
for the equipment, the attractions, the buildings and a good organization of the
people in the space. In this way you are not wasting the space, you are using the
knowledge of how to distribute people, materials, etc.
To be customer-friendly you also need a safe working environment and safe
working conditions.
It’s important to have a good interaction between the customer and employees,
and in the same way to have good flexibility, so if you need to change something
you can do it easily.

3. How would you improve upon some of the layout features that you see in
Walt Disney World?
It’s important to remember that the objective of the layout is to have an efficient
layout with competitive requirements, they need to be efficient and equalize every
task at each workstation. I would hire people that know perfectly how to handle all
the material equipment, and that know how the attraction is distributed.
And, to use all the space for a better layout, check out the environment so we can
add features in base of the information in the different areas.
Also, I would improve some of the ambient conditions like the smell and
temperature, sometimes people doesn’t feel really comfortable because of that.
