“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance
for us to do.”
Description:
We often hear from older people that the children now are way different from their time.
There’s a truth in this observation. You might have observed it as well. Good manners can be hardly
seen from the younger generations now. Here are some observations (not all met ketdi) and try to judge if it’s
true or not;
• Noon pagpuno na ang jeep ay may matanda na pumasok, lalabas ang mas bata to give way for the older
person. Ngayon walang pakialam.
• Pag may naglalakad na matanda carrying heavy bags, most of the time walang pakialam ang mga
kabataan.
• There’s no initiative to wash dishes, clean, and pick up trashes because they are busy playing mobile
games
This curriculum aims to teach our children Christ-like characters. The time may not be enough but let it be our
burden to instill biblical conducts and values to our children and us as teachers as well. As you study your
lessons, may you have reflections and check if you need to develop such characters also.
This curriculum will be paving a way for our Sunday school lessons. After this VBS, it is our prayer that we can
come up with lessons for One Year Sunday School Curriculum as a follow-up.

LESSON 1: HUMILITY
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the children will learn about/that:
a. being willingly to accept advice and listen to corrections/constructive comments.
b. bragging oneself is not a good thing.
c. praising God protects a heart from pride.
II. MATERIALS
Bible
A piece of paper with a figure or outline of a person
Cut-outs -crown, medals, trophies, sashes, garlands, though bubbles
III. INTRODUCTION/MOTIVATION
• On a large piece of paper, draw a figure or outline of a person. Label it with Mr. or Mrs. Pride.
• Tell that the figure is a person who won a game or who is very talented and arrogant.
• Let the children put the accessories (prepared before-hand) around the figure.
• Let them put the thought bubbles around the figures. OR Let the children write something in the
thought bubble about bragging his own self then pasting them around the figure.
*Ex. “I am #1”, “I am the winner.”, “I am with stupid.”
• After putting all the accessories and the thought bubbles, ask their ideas or thought about the figure.
IV. PRESENTATION:
Our story today is found in the Bible. The Bible is divided in to two; the Old Testament and the New
Testament. We will find our story in the Old Testament
V. BIBLE STORY: THE PROUD KING (Daniel 4)
A. King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that scared and bothered him.
B. God gave Daniel the wisdom to understand what the dream meant. So, he told Nebuchadnezzar what
the dream was about.
C. He also told the king that He should quit doing wrong and start doing right. But King Nebuchadnezzar
did not listen to Daniel’s advice.
Practical Application:
The Bible tells us that a wise son listens to the advice of his parents/ teachers/ elderly/ leaders.
Proverbs 1:8-- God’s plan is that parents will teach their children about Him.
D. One day Nebuchadnezzar was on the roof of his palace bragging about his mighty power and the great
house he had built for himself.
E. God spoke from heaven and told Nebuchadnezzar that his bad dream was going to come true. He made
him act and live like a wild animal until Nebuchadnezzar decided to give God the respect and honor He
deserves.

F. King Nebuchadnezzar learned His lesson and acknowledged God and praised Him as the Lord of
heaven and earth.
Practical Application:
God gave us gifts, talents, knowledge and ability to think wisely. When we won the competition we are
involved in or when we got an achiever’s award at school or when we are the ones who are always
being acknowledged in the family, by our friends, or other people, we have to keep in mind that God
gave us the ability to achieve our goals. We thank and praise God because of what He has done and
all the things He is providing for us to perform best.

G. After this, Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom was given back to him and he told others that he now praised
and glorified the King of heaven, “...because everything He does is right and all His ways are just. And
those who walk in pride He is able to humble” (Daniel 4:37)

DAY 1 MEMORY VERSE

Psalms 25:9 (ESV)
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble in His way.

1. Introduction
• Present children with a series of scenarios where they can be boastful or humble, such as winning a
game, getting a perfect score on a test or giving someone a gift.
• Have children give a boastful response and a humble response to each scenario.
* For example a child could pretend to brag about winning the game to demonstrate a boastful behavior
and say “good game” to the other players to demonstrate humility.
Presentation
• The verse we will be reading is found in the Bible. The Bible is God’s Word. It is a special book written
by God. He used special men to write down His words and ideas. There is an answer here for every
problem or situation in life.
Explanation
• *He leads the humble in what is right
- Doing what is right pleases God.
- If we want to please God then we have to be humble.
- Being humble means to listen and obey to advices and not to do things in our own way.
*These advices come from: parents, elderly, teachers, leaders, the Word of God.
- Being humble means we do not brag our own self (achievements, talents, abilities).
- Being humble means we acknowledge God as the source of our talents, skills, knowledge and wisdom.

• *and teaches the humble in His way

- God’s way is right and it will not harm us but will lead us into His plan.
- When we continuously humble ourselves we our letting God teach us the right way to live.
Application
If we choose to be humble, we please the Lord and we live in harmony with the people around us.

LESSON 2: HONOR/ RESPECT

A. Bible Story: Ham’s …
Genesis 9:18-27
1.The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Japheth and Ham.
2.Noah, who was a farmer, proceeds to plant a vineyard.
3.Noah drank some of the wine, became drank and lay naked on his tent.
4.Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his naked father and he told his two brothers.
5.Shem and Japheth took a garment and covered their father without looking at their father’s nakedness.
6.Noah sobered up and learned what his youngest son had done.
7.Noah put a curse on Canaan.
8.Noah blessed the descendants of Shem and Japheth.

Honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself
C. Application
• Respect your parents by not answering them back in an unpleasant way.
• Another way of showing them respect is by being quiet and listen while they are talking or correcting
your mistakes.
• Love your neighbors also by not doing bad things to them. Share what you have to them.

Instructions:
The children are task to write a thank you letter to their parents. The content may be a poem, song, letter,
or drawings. They can use their creativity.

LESSON 3: LOYALTY
I. MATERIALS:
Money (paper bills)
Sticker paper
Mark
II. INTRODUCTION:
• Three people will act out. Person A will be holding a paper bill that will serve as a prize. Two people
will compete for the prize. The name of person B and C will be written on the sticker paper and stick it
on their back. Whoever removes the sticker paper first- wins.
• Tell to the children that the story will show them a beautiful friendship that even though it is possible for
them to compete for the throne and let the strong man wins, they did not.
III. PRESENTATION
The story is found in the Old Testament. The bible has two parts- the New Testament and the Old
Testament. And the Old Testament contain 37 books which includes the 1 Samuel. Let us open our bible
in 1 Samuel Chapter 20.
III. BIBLE STORY
A. Saul, was the first king of Israel. Saul disobeyed God in two instances that is why God rejected him to
be a king. (1 Samuel 13:13-14 and 1 Samuel 15:3) .
B. God chose David to be his successor. King Saul was very jealous of David. (1 Samuel 18:9).
C. He made a plot to kill him
D. Saul plans to have David fall by the hands of the Philistine. (1 Samuel 18:25)
E. King Saul has a son named Jonathan, (whom by tradition he will be the successor of King Saul)
F. Jonathan is David’s best friend. Jonathan love David as himself. (Emphasize to the children that that
kind of love is a brotherly love, and it was never meant to be interpreted as romantic love. It is like
loving your own brother or sister. Therefore, they are not gays.) (1 Samuel18:1-4)
G. After the failed attempt of murder, Saul ordered Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. (1 Samuel
19:1)
H. Ask the children what will Jonathan do, will he obey his father? Will he obey the order of the king?
(Allow response)
I. But because Jonathan loved David, he warned David about his father’s plan. (1 Samuel 19:2)
J. What about you? For example, you have heard that your brother is plotting to hurt your best friend. But
you know that your best friend didn’t wrong your brother. Will you warn your best friend even though
you know that your brother will hate you? (Allow response)
K. Some of us, responded yes and some are hesitant to answer but, in our story, Jonathan had warned
David.

L. Jonathan spoke to the king and asks why is he planning to kill David after all the victory that the Lord
brought through David. And that victory benefited the king greatly. (1 Samuel 19:4-5)
M. King Saul listened to Jonathan and David was with Saul as before. (1 Samuel 19:7)
N. But after some times, king Saul attempted to murder David again. (1 Samuel 19:9-22)
O. David fled and met with Jonathan. They were both grieved because of king Saul’s command to kill
David. In that place they made a covenant to look out for each other. (1 Samuel 20:1-16)
P. Jealous friends sometimes force us to choose. ‘Who is your best friend?’ they demand, when we’d prefer
not to rank them. Jonathan faced that kind of loyalty dilemma with his father, who grew insanely jealous
of his son’s friendship with David.
Q. David and Jonathan had made a plan to see if king Saul is still planning to kill David. (1 Samuel 20:18-
25)
R. It is the New Moon festival, and the royal family had a dinner. The first night David ‘s chair is empty
but king Saul hadn’t asked of him. (1 Samuel 20:25-26)
S. The second night, king Saul had asked why David is missing again. (1 Samuel 20:27)
T. Jonathan had made-up an excused for David’s absence. (1 Samuel 20:28-29)
U. King Saul’s anger had flared to Jonathan and he said to him (Read the passage) (1 Samuel 20:30-31)
V. Jonathan asked his father why David would be put to death. (1 Samuel 20:32)
W. But king Saul in a blind rage, hurled a spear at his own son for standing up for David. (1 Samuel 20:33)
X. Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger; he did not eat because he was grieved at his father’s
shameful treatment of David. (1 Samuel 20:34)
Y. Though Jonathan tried to stay loyal to his father and friend, his father made it impossible.
Z. One major factor further complicated Jonathan’s choice: As Saul’s son, he is expected to be the next
king. By siding with David, he would ultimately harm himself. At his own risk, Jonathan chose to help
David escape. The next day, Jonathan went out to the field where they agreed to meet and delivered the
message to David. (1 Samuel 20:35-40)
AA. David bowed down before Jonathan three times with his face to the ground. Then they wept
together- but David wept the most. (1 Samuel 20:41)
BB. This is what Jonathan said. Read the passage 1 Samuel 20:42 ‘Go in peace, for we have sworn
friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord is witness between you and me,
and between my descendants and your descendants forever’.
CC. Jonathan didn’t see David as his enemy for the crown. Instead, he recognized that God had
ordained David to be the next king. (1 Samuel 23:17)
DD. Let us look back to what happened earlier, when person B and C competes for the prize, they did
everything to get the prize. But in our story although it is right for Jonathan to be the next king of Israel.
He recognized that God appointed David to be the next king and instead of competing to be the next he
had supported and protected David to be the next king.
EE.Tragically, the two friends never got the chance to rule together. In a battle against the Philistines,
Jonathan fought at his father’s side and was killed (1 Samuel 1:17-27). Their loyalty and love make for
one of the most beautiful stories of friendship.
IV. APPLICATION

Even your friend has nothing to offer - Protect your friend and help your friend. Sometimes it is possible
to be friends with somebody just because they have candies, gadgets or anything but what if they don’t have
anything? Will you still be friends? If in school he/she is bullied- You don’t have to punch somebody to defend
him/her. Even if everybody is laughing or mocking him/her. She/he would know you care for him/her if you
will accompany him/her despite being mocked and ridiculed by your fellow children.

MEMORY VERSE
Proverbs 18:24
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
I. INTRODUCTION
• Ask Children randomly if what is the name of their best friend? (Allow response)
• Why am I asking you the names of your best friends? That is because our memory verse is about
having a friend. (Read the passage)
II. MEMORY VERSE
• One who has unreliable friends comes to ruin
✓ What kind of friends do we have? Do we have a lot of friends for the sake of companionship?
✓ In our bible lesson it taught us about a friendship that is mutually helpful. For those children who
have a lot of friends- are you friends with them because you need something from them? Are you
friends with them because they offer you something?
✓ On this part of the scripture it is warning us that to have many friends can be harmful. Why?
Because if our friends are not directed and guided by the Word of God, then they might teach us
things that can destroy us. Friends that are being swayed by the world and not grounded on the
Bible may lead you to sin and direct you away from the Lord.
• But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
✓ Now, this is the kind of friendship that the word of God encourages. Find a genuine friend who
will remain loyal to your friendship. What we need are friends who can stick to you and love
you purely even if you have nothing to offer. Friends who will love you in your strengths and
even in your weaknesses. They will not leave you even if you show them that you are not perfect
but help you instead so that you can develop yourself and change into someone God wants you
to be.
III. APPLICATION
• You can pray to God to give us wisdom in choosing our right friends.
IV. REVIEW
Form a circle. Pass the ball and play music. Stop the music. He/ She who holds the ball will recite the
memory verse.

CRAFT TIME

Materials:
• Beads (optional)
• Used folders (see illustration below)
• Thread
• scissors
Instructions:
• Every child will be given a set of threads, and will follow a certain procedure in order to make
bracelets. The bracelets that they will be making will be given to their friend or friends.

7 * The children will be given a set of thread (7 different colours) and

1 will be inserted in each number. All the threads will be gathered
6 and placed in the hole at the centre. Knot the end of the threads.
2 Each thread should be tightly pulled in every exchange.

* The pattern for the exchange is as follows:

- 4 to blank; 1 to 4; 5 to 1; 2 to 5; 6 to 2; 3 to 6; 7 to 3; 4 to 7; blank
5 to 4.

LESSON 4: Friends Bring a Man to Jesus to be Healed (Mark 2:1-12)

I. INTRODUCTION

• (Have someone portray a paralyzed person. Another person attends to him, helping him sit, giving
food/drink, etc.)
• What do you think happened to that person who can’t move and eat on his own? Who do you think
is that person helping him? (Let children answer.)
• Our story for today tells about friends who helped their paralyzed friend be healed.

II. PRESENTATION:

This Bible story is from the New Testament. The New Testament has 27 books.

III. BIBLE LESSON

Jesus entered Capernaum again, the people heard about it.

b. So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door. Jesus preached the Word to
them.

c. Four men, carrying a paralytic, came to Jesus.

d. They could not get the paralytic to Jesus because of the crowd.

e. They made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the
paralyzed man was lying on.

f. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

g. Some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that?
He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

h. Immediately Jesus knew in His spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and He said to
them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to
say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?

i. “But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” He said to the
paralytic, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”

j. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised
God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Application:

1. What does it mean to be helpful?

Being helpful is when you are ready to give help even if you are not asked to do so.

2. When should you help?

- When you saw someone carrying a heavy load

- In doing household chores

- In keeping the classroom clean

- In keeping the surroundings clean

- When you saw someone working

3. How should you help?

- Help the person carry his load

- Volunteer to do any household chore you are capable of accomplishing

- When you see that the board needs to be cleaned, clean it.

- Pick pieces of dirt you see around you and put them in the trash bin

- Offer help to anyone you see who’s working

MEMORY VERSE 4

Ecclesiastes 4:9 Two people are better than one because together they have a good reward for their hard work.

I – One person tries to lift a very heavy object and will have a difficulty doing it till someone comes and help.
They were able to lift the object together.

P – Our verse for today tells about working together to achieve better result. The verse is from the Bible, God’s
Word. The Bible is divided into two, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Our verse is from the 21st
book of the Old Testament, Ecclesiastes. (Read verse from the Bible. Present visual. Teach reference.)

E – Two people are better than one: Two doesn’t literally mean just two, it could be more. It’s better to have
company than being alone, especially in accomplishing tasks.

Because together they have a good reward for their hard work: The more people working together, helping
each other, the better the result. Helping others in any task will make things easier for them. Through this verse,
God wants us to be helpful.

A – If you received Jesus as your Savior, God wants you to help others who are in need of help, in any way you
can.

If you haven’t received Jesus in your heart yet, you may do it today, then you will have the desire to
follow His Word.

R – Follow the leader: The children repeat the verse as they follow the movements the teacher makes.
Examples: jump on one foot, move the arm in a circle, walk, etc.

V. CRAFTS

Materials:
• bond paper
• writing materials
• any available art materials
• two 12-inch stick for each child

Instructions:
The children will be doing their own “SCROLL OF CHORES”. Each child will write their own
checklist of what chore or any task they can accomplish in a week/ day/ month. Creativity is encouraged.

LESSON 5: Saul’s Disobedience (I Samuel 15)

Intro: Who among you have tried disobeying his/her parents? What did your parents do to you? Our story for
today talks about someone who disobeyed God. Let’s see what happened to him.
Progression of events:
a. Samuel told Saul that the Lord had sent him to anoint Saul as the king over the people of Israel. He said
that the Lord had a message for Saul. The message was that Saul was to destroy the Amalekites right down to
the last living creature because of the way they had destroyed the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt.
b. Samuel told Saul that he must leave nothing living. Saul gathered his army of 200,000 foot soldiers at
Telaim. There were also 10,000 men who came from Judah. They set up an ambush in a ravine outside of
Amalek. Saul told the Kenites that they should leave the area so that they would not accidentally be killed since
they had been kind to the Israelites.
c. Once they were gone, Saul and his men laid siege on all the Amalekites from just outside Egypt at Shur
to Havilah. Saul took King Agag prisoner but had all of the people and most of the animals killed. His men
decided to keep the best of the cattle, sheep, calves and lambs.
d. Because Saul disobeyed God, God tells Samuel that he regretted making Saul king. Angry about the
situation, Samuel cries out to God about it all night.
e. As Samuel goes out to meet Saul, we see that he is setting up a monument. Saul seems to believe that he
has carried out the command of the Lord. Samuel criticizes Saul for not killing the Amalekite king and
destroying the animals.
f. Saul explained that the soldiers had saved the best livestock to sacrifice to the Lord.
g. Samuel said that the Lord was unhappy about this. Samuel wondered why Saul had not followed the
Lord’s instructions to the letter. Saul said that he had obeyed the Lord’s instructions, but the soldiers had
decided to save the best livestock for the Lord.
h. Samuel replied by asking Saul if he thought it was better to offer the Lord sacrifices or simply obey the
Lord. Samuel told Saul that the Lord had rejected him as king because Saul had been disobedient and arrogant.
Saul realized his mistake and understood that he had been disobedient.
Application:
1. What does it mean to be obedient?
Being obedient is when you willingly do or follow commands, requests or instructions of those in authority
(parents, teachers, elders, etc).
2. When
- Your parents tell you to do any household chores (wash dishes, sweep the floor, clean your room, etc.)

- Your teachers give you tasks in school (pick pieces of dirt, clean the board, etc.)

- You are told to behave, keep quiet, do what’s right, etc., even if others don’t

I – Skit > Mom: Anak, please go to the store and buy sugar. Give me back the change, that’s the only money I
have.
Child: Yes mom.
On his way home, the child saw her mom’s favorite dress on sale…
Child: Mom told me to give the change back but this dress is on sale and I know this is what really likes.
I’ll buy it using her money.
Ask: Do you think the mother will be happy with what the child did? Did the child do the right thing?
Our verse for today teaches us about obeying.
P – Our verse is from the Bible. It is God’s Word, so everything in it is true. We learned that the Bible is
divided into two: old and new testament. There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New
Testament. Today’s verse is from the Old Testament. (Read verse from the Bible. Present visual. Teach
reference.)
E – To obey is better than sacrifice

Sometimes, we do things that we think would please our parents, just like what we’ve seen in the skit.
However, this verses it telling us that it is more important to follow instructions than ignoring them and doing
what we think is right. We should base our actions or decisions on the instructions given to us. For example,
you are told to go to school, but when someone offered you a job, you quit school and just worked because you
thought you would help your parents when you give them your salary. Do you think your parents will be happy
when you do this? No, because we did not obey their instruction.
A – If you received Jesus as your Savior, God wants you to obey Him and the people in authority.
If you haven’t received Jesus in your heart yet, you may do it today, and God will help you to willingly
obey Him and the people in authority.
R – Choose a friend: A child repeats the verse. Then he chooses another child to go to the front of the class to
repeat it with him. The second child then chooses another and all three repeat the verse together. Continue until
several children are at the front repeating the verse together without error.
