Preface
When children enter a Preschool, they have basically four skills to acquire. They are
listening, speaking, reading and writing. The first two skills start developing at home
on
while the other two skills are acquired with formal years of schooling.
To make this journey a fun-seeking and joyful experience, and for an all-round development
ti
of the children, a variety of subjects like Language, Mathematics, Environmental Studies,
Art and Craft are introduced in schools.
ca
In Smart Learners, we have tried to cover the total learning program of these vital
formative years in a very systematic manner. Each new book takes the children ahead
du
from where they were in the previous year. This enables the children to build file folders
of information in their brains. In addition, ample practice is given in all subjects specially
for developing reading and writing skills. Simplicity of pictures for colouring skills, proper
E
spacing of lines for writing letters and numbers and gradual reduction in the size of
letters and numbers are also given special attention. They help to mould the delicate
a
pincer grip of children for beautiful handwriting.
iv
The learners go through a gradual process from recognition of capital and small letters,
association of letters with phonic sounds in level 1 to recognition of beginning and
V
ending sounds, reading of 2-letter words and recognition of vowels and consonants at
level 2 to reading and writing of sight words, blends, digraphs, small sentences and
paragraph at level 3.
©
In Mathematics, the series introduces the children to the complex world of numbers in a
very colourful and interesting manner making them ready with understanding of numbers
t
from 1 to 20 and writing of numbers upto 100. Addition and subtraction are introduced
h
The series aims at enhancing knowledge of the children about their surroundings through
the amazing section of Environmental Studies. It covers various interesting topics related
yr
and gradually prepare them for Grade 1. We hope the children enjoy these books and the
colourful illustrations keep their interest all through, opening their minds for acquisition
C
of further knowledge.
