Writing #2

I believe that the teaching style that I grew up with is with me, but I think that with
learning more about different approaches and my teaching style is a bit different than the one
that I grew up with. I will still have students have play time and not have them work on
worksheets the majority of the time as I did when I was in grade school. Another teaching style
that I would like to try is in having students justify their answers and not just simply tell them
that it's wrong. I saw this when I was observing a resource teacher and she went around asking
students for their answers, she did not say whether it was correct or wrong. She simply wrote it
on the board and preceded to ask the students who got the wrong answer to justify how they
got their answer. Which of course they couldn't so the teacher works the problem out on the
whiteboard with one of the students who got the answer wrong. That student was able to
pause for a moment and see where exactly it was where he messed up. When I was growing
up, I was not told I love you much and dismissed without having any explanation. I would like to
tell my students that I love them daily in case they don’t hear it at home. There will be time that
I will have to be stern with them, but I would like to be transparent as possible on why I was. I
feel being transparent as I possibly can create a better connection with students.
