ASSIGNMENT 1 (Observations): After arrival, take a seat in a nonintrusive location to

begin your classroom observations. Complete the questions below:

Observation 1: What are your first impressions of the classroom environment? Is it warm,
inviting, organized, etc? Describe the physical environment in detail. >>>

My initial impression of the resource room was it being small but later saw that Mrs. Glaza

students when pulled out are in small groups. The largest group she has is her fifth-grade class

that consists of five students and get pull out of their classroom twice a day. The room is warm

and inviting with colored paper reinforcing how to problem solve. The students have

developed a routine working on a binder or white board (depending on the lesson) that are

placed in their assigned area and are labeled with the students’ name. The physical

environment is straight forward in displaying around the room on how to use learning

strategies and problem solving. Since Mrs. Glaza is a special education teacher and her

students are in smaller sizes, which is why she only has 8 desks inside her classroom.

Observation 2: Please describe the student make-up of the class, including gender, ethnicity,
ELL, students with physical challenges, and any other apparent attributes that are important to
note. >>>

The classroom is a resource room where students with learning disabilities are pull out from

their general classroom and are taught on a one on one environment. There was a variety of

students from different backgrounds and ethnicity from what I saw there was Africa American,

Hispanic, and Caucasian.

Observation 3: What are the posted class rules in the room? (exactly as written) >>>
The posted classroom rule is a poster using the acronym C.H.A.M.P.S. the C stands for

Conversation: What should my voice level be? H means Help: If I need help, how do I ask? A

stands for Activity: What are we doing right now? M stands for Movement: Can I get up and

walk around? P stands for Participation: Am I showing that I am part of the team? S stands for

Success: Be proud of yourself!

Observation 4: Does the teacher enforce these posted rules? Are rewards or consequences being
used for compliance or noncompliance? >>>

Mrs. Glaza currently does not have any reward system, but plan on including it soon. The

posted rules are enforced and if the students do not follow, she will have them step outside to

have a talk with them. She has been able to manage behavior by simply talking to the students

and not using kid gloves when doing so.
