Proverbs 10:9

Is God warning you not to date someone that you really like? If so, what
signs might God be giving you that he does not want you with this
person?

Here are 4 signs that God might be warning you not to date someone.

4 Signs God Is Warning You Not to Date Someone

If God Shows You Something This Person Was Trying to Hide, God Is
Warning You Not to Date This Person

One possible sign that God is warning you not to date someone is if he
reveals something to you that this person was actually trying to hide from
you.

For example, if a friend randomly tells you a story that and mentions a
certain guy was there, but that guy told you he was somewhere else that
night, God could be revealing this information to you to warn you about
this person.

Or if a girl told you that she really likes you but then you see something on
social media where she is saying the same types of things to someone
else, God could be showing you these things as a way to warn you.

If Almost Every Sermon, Christian Podcast, or YouTube Video Seems

to Be Leading You Away from This Person, God Could Be Warning You

Have you ever had that experience where you had a burning question or a
big problem, and then you go to church and the sermon is all about that
issue you hare having? God often provides the answers we seek in ways
we could not have arranged for.

A coincidence here and there should be expected. But I have personally

had experiences where God seems to be confirming a message to me in
multiple places. The sermon that Sunday, the radio show on the way
home, the first video in your YouTube feed – if God seems to be sending
you a consistent message to avoid this person no matter where you look,
this could be God warning you not to get into a relationship with this
person.

Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.”
(Proverbs 15:22)

If You Have a Nagging Sense in Your Heart This Person Is Not Good
for You, God Could Be Warning You Not to Date This Person

Another common way that God sends his people warnings is through the
impressions the Holy Spirit places on our hearts. God may part the
heavens or write on the wall. But oftentimes God does give us an inner
sense through the Holy Spirit on what he is saying to us.

If you have a nagging feeling in your heart that this person is not good for
you, don’t ignore that. Certainly don’t make huge life decisions just based
on random feelings or thoughts that go through your head. Sometimes we
just make God’s voice up in our heads.

But as you mature in Christ, you will become more familiar with the Holy
Spirit’s personal leading in your life. Don’t ignore the discernment God is
sending you. This could be a warning from God that he does not want you
to date this person.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make
straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

If God Reveals Clear Passages of Scripture that Would Lead You

Away from This Person, God Is Warning You Not to Date This Person

Point 1 and 2 of this article are pretty subjective. There is certainly biblical
evidence for the personal leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives like we
talked about in point 3, but hearing God in this way is definitely open to
making mistakes.

The only sure and certain way to know exactly what God has said is to
look at the word of God (Psalm 119:105). If you are wondering if God
wants you to be someone, but then God keeps speaking to you through
the Bible that this person is not good for you, this is a clear sign that God
is warning you not to date this person. Never ignore the word of God.
Don’t make the Bible more complicated than it really is. If the Bible is clear,
don’t try to explain it away just so you feel better about ignoring what God
has said.

God will warn us in many ways, but God’s primary and most clear
warnings are always found in his word.
