CHAPTER :- 2

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT

12
 INTRODUCTION :-

A Production department is a group of functions within a business that is responsible

For manufacturer of goods, production includes machines, machine setup specialists, maintenance
personnel and machine operators.

Production refers to all of the activities involve in the production of goods and services, from
borrowing to setting up or expanding production facilities, to hiring workers, purchasing raw
material, running quality, cost accounting and so on rather than referring merely to the physical
transformation of inputs into outputs of goods and services.

 INFORMATION :-

Let us know what is a lithium :-

Lithium is a silver-white colored soft metal that belongs to the alkali metal group. Lithium is the
lightest element known and has strong electrochemical potential.

It is highly reactive element making it flammable and potentially explosive when exposed to air
and water and is usually stored in mineral oil to preserve it from corrosion and tarnish.

 RAW MATERIAL :-

1. PURE NICKLE STRIPS

2. LITHIUM CELLS

13
3. BMS (Battery Management System) Chip
4. BATTERY SPACEAR HOLDER

1. PURE NICKLE STRIPS :- 2. LITHIUM CELLS :-

3. BMS :- 4.
BATTERY SPACEAR HOLDER:-

14
Reeva corporation pure nickle strips imported from delhi. And other raw material like lithium cells and
battery management system chip imported from china. And battery spacear holder buying from surat of
wholesalers.

 Machine used :-

1. LITHIUM CELLS CHARGING MACHINE:-

Charging of lithium cells can be split into two main stages :-

15
Constant current charge :- In the first stage of charging a cell, the charge current is controlled.
Typically this will be between 0.5 and 1.0 C. (NB: for a 2 000 mAh battery the charge rate would be 2
000 mA for a charge rate of C).

For consumer based LCO cells and batteries, a charge rate of a maximum of 0.8C is recommended.

During this stage the voltage across the lithium ion cell increases for the constant current charge . The
charge time may be around an hour for this stage.

Saturation charge :- After a time the voltage peaks at around 4.2 Volts for and cell. At this point
the cell or battery must enter a second stage of charging known as the saturation charge. A constant
voltage of 4.2 volts is maintained and the current will steadily fall.

The end of the charge cycle is reached when the current falls to around 10% of the rated current. The
charge time may be around two hours for this stage dependent upon the type of cell and the manufacturer,
etc.

The charge efficiency, i.e. the amount of charge retained by the battery or cell against the amount of
charge entering the cell is high. Charge efficiencies of around 95 to 99% can be achieved. This reflects
into relatively low levels of cell temperature rise.

Many cells are now designed for fast charging, although within the ratings for the cell, this process can
reduce the life of the battery, and a balance between convenience and lifetime needs to be made.

All lithium cells work in broadly the same way. when the cells is charging up, the lithium-cobalt oxide,
positive electrode gives up some of its lithium ions, which move through the electrolyte to the negative,
graphite electrode and remain there. The cells takes in and stores energy during this process.

2. CAPACITY GRADING MACHINE:-

16
Capacity grading machine, is not only the very first machine to charge new-made lithium-ion cells, but
also the first machine to grade and sort cells before making a lithium-ion battery pack.

By running cycles of CV-CC charging, rest, CC discharging, rest, then again CV-CC charging, this
capacity grading machine can measure multiple parameters of each cell, like capacity, open-circuit
voltage, cut-off electricity consumption…etc.  After sorting all cells with certain criteria, we can use
those cells with closest electrical performances to assemble battery packs. Only then we can maximize
capacity and lifespan of the battery pack.

This machine adopts modular design and has a total capacity of 512 points. In other words, it supports
grading maximum 512 cells by one time of running. In addition, with adjustable cell holders, it can
support various sizes of cylindrical lithium-ion cells, including 18650, 26650, 21700, 32650…etc.

Moreover, it can work offline independently with embedded microcomputer units (MCUs) on each
machine, or be controlled by separate computer after connecting them via serial port. And one computer
can control max. 10 units of machines, so it is perfect for mass production demand.

Machine features:-

 Embedded multiple protection function to ensure safety during charging/discharging circles,

including over-voltage protection, power leakage protection, over-temperature protection.
 Automatically record multiple electrical parameters in every charging or discharging step,
including open-circuit voltage, average voltage, cut-off voltage, cut-off capacity, cut-off
electricity consumption, cut-off current..etc.
 Measurement data, charging/discharging curve and statistics can be saved, displayed or printed.

17
3. STRIP CUTTER MACHINE:-

18
The machine is used for cutting battery nickel strip, shrink tube/sleeve and small wire for battery
assembly. Also it can cut solar ribbon, soft tubes, hook & loop Velcro /elastic, ribbon cable, plastic film
etc..

Features:-

-High speed: It can cut 100~120 cuts per minute. (50mm long)
-Accuracy: Cut-length is accurate controlled by stepping motors
-Cutting type: Cutting is neat due to using a cold cutter which is durable.
-Automatic operation: It works automatically only by setting length and quantity
-Automatic stopper: It stops automatically if materials run out during operation
-Memory: Set-length, set-quantity & set-speed are not erased even if power off & on
-Application: Nylon fiber ribbon, rope, horse reed belt, leather, nylon zipper, belt bags etc.
-Multi-functional usage: Cut shrink tubes, pvc tubes, fiber glass tubes, Velcro, elastic, zipper, tape, flat
cable, copper wire. Paper, plastic sheet, etc..

4. lithium cell stripping machine:-

19
Lithium cells stripping machine is also known as welding machine. It is usually welded with pure nickel
sheets or nickel plated steel, with a thickness of 0.1-0.3 mm.

Lithium stripping is a crucial process coupled with lithium deposition. Stripping in lithium metal batteries
is the anodic dissolution of lithium. The electrochemical oxidation of its surface atoms results in the
liberation of cations into the electrolyte.

1. Suitable for spot welding of nickel sheets of power battery packs.

2. The fixture design is user-friendly, which facilitates the placement of nickel sheets.
3. Fully automatic design, after the fixture is placed in place, the machine automatically starts spot
welding.
4. Multiple sets of spot welding programs can be preset and recalled at any time.
5. The spot welding program route can be arbitrarily designed without specific requirements.
6. The product quality is stable and the appearance is uniform.
