PROJECT TOPIC: COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ADVANCES OF CREDIT CO-

OP. SOCIETIES AND URBAN CO-OP BANKS

INTRODUCTION

The project work of comparative analysis of The Sangamner Merchant Co-operative Bank
Limited, Nagar Urban Co-Op Bank will carried out at Credit Co-Op Bank and Urban Co-op Banks
for the period allowed by college. The objectives behind the study is to evaluate the financial
performance and profitability of Banks. The Sangamner Merchant Co-operative Bank Limited and
Nagar Urban Co-Op Bank are the major co-operative banks in Sinnar. The primary objective of
this project is to evaluate the financial performance and profitability of the banks and their service
and different types of loans provided to their customers. The study helps to evaluate the
comparison between these banks by using common size and comparative statements. To fulfill the
above said objectives of the study the data will collected from Manager, Loan Officer and
Accountant of bank and also from banks reports, financial statements. After the data collection, it
will be tabulated according to the concept researched. The tables, charts will be clearly mentioned
in the analysis of reports. Interpretation will be graphically mentioned in the comprehensive
manner for efficient and effective understanding. Through this study the researcher identifying
which bank will performed most effectively and efficiently.

SELECTION OF TOPIC

The present research work selected as a titled “COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ADVANCES BY


URBAN CO-OP BANKS.” In respect of NAGAR URBAN CO-OP Bank, SINNAR Branch. Co-
Op banks are backbone of rural as well as urban society. In current scenario co-op movement is
expanded. But during this expansion performance of co-op society found very poor. Due to lack of
awareness of laws and expertise co-op banks face huge problems for recovery of loans. So with
the project guide help selected this topic to light on this matter and found effective tools and ways
to remedies over problems of co-op bank.

IMPORTANCE OF STUDY
This project work help to study the followings.-
1. This research work help to study Types of Loan facilities provided by bank. Its financial
performance, liquidity, solvency, NPA and its impact on profitability of selected co-op
Bank.
2. This project work study the performance in regards to Advances given and recovered
during F.Y. 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21.
3. This project also study the comparative analysis of Advances given, NPA status and
Advances recovered during period selected for study.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The study will undertake with the following objective

1. To study the functioning and management of Co-Op Bank:


2. To study the structure/ pattern of loaning to its members by Co-operative Banks and
procedure for its disbursement and recovery
3. To examine RBI guidelines and Government of India guidelines relating to Loan sanction
and NPA.
4. To study the causes of non- performing assets of selected Co-operative Bank.
5. To study performance of selected Urban Co-Op Banks.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

For study only Two different Co-Op Banks are selected. This study analyze only three years
financial performance. Due to lack of time limit project work have some limitations. Within this
limitations and framework research work will carried out. This comparative study analyze the
performance of each co-op bank during his region, its importance and needs.
HYPOTHESIS

The following hypotheses were set for this research.

1. If Loan and advances given properly by co-op bank, it reduces NPA directly.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The procedure by which researches go about their work of describing explaining & predicting
phenomenon are called methodology. Methodology means a particular set of methods used for
collecting the information to the objective of the project. All methods for research are flat finding
mission. Methodology is defined as study of methods by which are gain knowledge, it deals with
the organization processes imposed on research by the problem arising from the nature of tis
subject matter.

Primary Data

Primary data is original data collected from reliable sources by using various method first time and
all data collected is new and unique for research. For this research data collection method selected
as follows

1) Prepare the quaternaries interview

2) Discussion with the Branch Manager, Loan Officer, etc

3) Collection of information related to loan & advances from reports provided by Banks.

Secondary Data

The secondary data on the other hand, are based on second-hand information. The data which have
been already been collected, compiled & presented easier by any agency may be used for the
purpose of investigated such data may be called secondary data. Collecting the information with
the help of Annual Reports Magazines, internet.

1) Annual Report of Banks.


2) Reference Books – The theoretical part of the project is taken with the help of reference books.
3) Internet – refereeing various sites collected the practical part advance details.

LIMITATIONS

1. The present study will conduct on comparative analysis of financial position of


cooperative banks only.
2. Researcher is selected only one selected co-operative bank.
3. While collecting financial data collective and diagnostic approach was used for the
analysis and study.
4. Only data shown in Financial statements will decided to analysed.
5. The study will conduct for the period 2018-19 to 2020-21.
