1. Summarize Noli Me Tangere.

Crisostomo Ibarra returns to his hometown of San Diego after a seven-year study
period in Europe, eager to contribute to the growth of his community. As a
reformist, he strives to make education more accessible to more people. His
idealism, unfortunately, cannot yield fruit since he is being destroyed by devious
forces. Ibarra discovers that his father, Don Rafael, was involved in a feud with
Padre Damaso, which led to his disgrace and death. The young man is imprisoned
but subsequently rescued by Elias, whose life Ibarra had previously saved, and as
the novel concludes, the disillusioned Ibarra sees a gloomy future.

2. Describe Rizal's childhood and local education.

Rizal's childhood and early education were memorable, especially since his
mother was the one who taught him values. He was born creative and literate,
which were encouraged by the scenic splendor of Calamba and his family's lovely
garden. His father provided him with exciting experiences. His religious outlook
was strengthened by the religious atmosphere in his home. Rizal himself
remarked that his habits may have been influenced by the education he
experienced as a child.

3. Explain the Rizal Law.

Jose Rizal's pivotal role in achieving national independence resulted in the


passage of Republic Act 1425 on June 12, 1956. Senator Claro M. Recto
introduced what became known as the Rizal Act. There is a need to rededicate
ourselves to the values of liberty and nationalism for which our heroes fought and
died. Whereas it is met that in commemorating them, notably the national hero
and patriot, Jose Rizal, we recall their lives and efforts that have molded the
national character with great warmth and devotion. The Rizal law mandates
private and public school curricula, as well as college and university courses, to
contain Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings, notably his novels Noli Me Tangere
and El Filibusterismo, in order to teach students about the notion of nationalism.

4. Describe Rizal’s education and life abroad.

Rizal chose to study abroad for personal and legal reasons. He wanted to be an
ophthalmologist so he could treat her mother's vision. He also wants to learn
about European cultures, laws, and governments in order to help his fellowmen.
His life abroad was challenging whereas if he ran out of money while traveling,
he might survive on a few biscuits for days. He studies on an empty stomach or
goes for hours without eating.

5. Why is Rizal the National Hero?

Rizal became a national hero in the Philippines because he met the qualifications
during the American period. He demonstrated unconditional devotion to his
nation and fought for freedom in a quiet but successful manner. Instead of
becoming violent, he used his intelligence, abilities, and skills more peacefully.
He used his works to enable Filipinos to understand the truth and see things with a
unique outlook. The fact that we are now privileged because of his honorable
death is reason enough to truly appreciate and recognize him as a hero.
