3. Ukraine invasion could cause global food crisis, UN warns
4. IPL 2022: 'Bit of frustration', say s LSG's Quinton de Kock on his emotional century
celebration

Now the news in detail:

The discovery of a shivling-like structure in Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque has been a topic of debate
for some time. Some people think it is a shivling, while others claim it is a fountain. Experts from
IIT-BHU carefully analyse the videos and photos and come up with possibilities. RS Singh, professor
at IIT-BHU chemical engineering department, said, “I personally feel it is a shivling, but some people
are claiming it is a fountain because there is a fountain-like structure on its tip.” He adds that “If we
consider it a fountain, there was no electricity years ago and people used to pour water from a
great height and the area would take a different shape, but the Gyanvapi premises never had this
kind of a system,” the professor said, adding there should be a technology through which water can
be poured from a height of 50 to 100 feet for it to run without electricity.

A report commissioned and released by the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister has
suggested that the Government should launch a guaranteed employment programme for the urban
unemployed and roll out a universal basic income (UBI) scheme to reduce income gaps. Citing the
“skewed nature” of income distribution in the country, the report also recommended steps to raise
minimum income and more government spending on the social sector to make vulnerable sections
immune to sudden shocks” and “stop their descent into poverty”.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the war had worsened food insecurity in poorer nations due
to rising prices. Some countries could face long-term famines if Ukraine's exports are not restored to
pre-war levels, he added. The conflict has cut-off supplies from Ukraine's ports, which once exported
vast amounts of cooking oil as well as cereals such as maize and wheat. This has reduced the global
supply and caused the price of alternatives to soar. Global food prices are almost 30% higher than the
same time last year, according to the UN.

After playing an explosive knock of 140 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the Lucknow
Super Giants' (LSG) wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock said that his unique century celebration was
out of frustration. "To be honest, not really . Obviously, they played really well, assessed conditions
well and came hard at us. I thought Marcus Stoinis would defend it easily. But when the first three
went, thought the game was done for us. But that catch Evin Lewis took to dismiss Rinku Singh turned
things around for us. As they say, good catches win matches," said De Kock.
