Request for Custom Concentration

A Custom Concentration is only declared if a student is not able to fit the courses desired within a specific
concentration after already utilizing the electives in the Informatics section, and any waiver or course substitution
courses in either Informatics section and/or concentration elective(s).

How to declare a Custom Concentration?

1. Student must fill out the custom concentration form, including a rationale.
2. The custom concentration requires a student to fill in 8 courses or 24-credits, whichever is greater, that they will
apply towards their custom concentration. These courses cannot include Core Required courses.
3. Any course already taken prior to declaring a custom concentration in the “Fall through” section of your degree
audit will need to be included in your custom concentration list.
4. Upon returning the custom concentration form, student must make an appointment with advisor to discuss
the road map for the custom concentration courses.
5. The custom concentration form will need to be process for approval before a student’s custom concentration is
changed on degree audit.
6. In the last two terms of a student’s enrollment, student will need to make an appointment with their advisor to
revise any changes made to custom concentration during their enrollment.

Note: A credit excess may only be allowed if a course is necessary to prevent the student from falling short of the 24-
credit requirement. (e.g. A student has selected 23 credits worth of courses. This student would be eligible to choose a
3- credit class to bring the credit count to 26 credits).
