Process Flow Diagram Assignment

(Individual work, no groups)

Description:
This assessment will make use of a central narrative (case study) file, please note that this case study may be unique to
your intake, as such the answers generated will be exclusive to your cohort ensuring a customized experience and
supporting academic integrity initiatives.

This assessment has multiple objectives for student learning and skill(s) development:

1) This scenario will provide students with an academic-based case which is meant to;
a. Afford a practical diagram building experience focusing on industry best-practices
b. Allow students practice with translating written observations to object-defined diagrams
c. Deepen student understanding of the interdependencies that exist between operations and business

2) This deliverable will afford course faculty a chance to gauge student preparedness and ability to;
a. Critically evaluate business-based scenarios finding means to leverage IT solutions
b. Properly employ best practices through the application of industry tools

3) This assessment is part of a series of deliverables that make use of a continuing narrative, which affords
students the opportunity to experience first-hand how any project can leverage expertise from multiple
different fields to properly develop a functional solution.

narrative file (case study) to be used for completing this assessment.

Learning Outcomes:
Through the completion of this deliverable students will achieve, in totality or in part, the following unit and/or course
outcomes as itemized on the course outline.

Course Outcome

1. Assess a business process to identify opportunities to reduce wasteful activities in the business area and recommend
steps to be taken to increase business process efficiencies.

Unit Outcomes:

1.0 Lean Methods

1.2 Apply tools for eliminating waste from a business process.

1.8 Use various process analysis tools.

Tasks:
Referring to section 3.1.3. “Receipt of Goods” in your course’s case narrative you will:

1) Construct an AS-IS Diagram.


a) Follow all best practices discussed within class materials (Week 4)
b) Leverage the tool VISIO for the development of your work
c) Submit the final file as a PDF document

Success Criteria:
This assessment's overall weight can be found on the Instructional Plan (IP) and reflected within the eConestoga grade
book. Any student that discovers a conflict existing between the IP and grade book shall notify their course faculty
member.

The entirety of your assessment must be recorded utilizing the Zoom Record functionality. For specifics on this process,
please read the attached document “Recording your Test with Zoom.PDF”.
Failure to record and upload said recording to the cloud may result in a grade of zero (0) being applied to this evaluation.
The link for your cloud saved recording must be embedded as a hyperlink in the VISIO file, placed underneath of your
VSM title. If your hyperlink to your cloud recording is not ready before submission deadline then you are to submit the
hyperlink within a text file to the assignment dropbox once it is ready. You will not be deducted grades or penalized for
late submission for the link being submitted after the deadline.
The assessment grade will consist of the following criterion:

• AS-IS Process Flow Accuracy • Formatting


• AS-IS Process Flow Completeness • Correct utilization of Objects

For specific evaluation standards, students shall consult the associated rubric found in the Rubrics section of
eConestoga.

• Failure to submit an assessment by the specified end date, to the correct dropbox, will result in a grade of zero (0)
o No opportunity will be provided to make up for an unsubmitted deliverable
o It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their work has been submitted through eConestoga, on-
time, to the correct course and in the correct folder
• Be aware that Conestoga College’s Academic Offense policy will be enforced
