1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Naelofar Hijab


Neelofa grew up in a business-oriented household, hence Neelofa also follow her

family with become an entrepreneur herself. Since child, she liked with fashion and have an

ambition and passion for business, so she merged the two and started with her own design. As

she was going climbing her own personal transformation and with her decision to dress more

modestly, she decided to start with a shawl as her first product as to start and achieved her

own ambition.

Neelofa starting her business with collected some of her friends and make a small

group of teams that she trusted and can give idea and support. Neelofa with her team

members decided to simplify and modernize modest fashion by making the shawls more

practical and easily to wear especially for Muslim women. After various session of

brainstorming, trials and errors, finally in 2014, Naelofar Hijab have been launched with

design for an instant shawl.

They started their business with selling shawls on the internets and also at the bazaar.

The instant shawl got a positive progress and to handle with the increasing of demand from

the customer, stockists have been hired to make the business run smoothly. Based on the

latest, there are around 100 stockists not just in Malaysia but also in Brunei, Singapore and

Indonesia.

Naelofar Hijab has become huge and well known, and because of that two other

design have been created by Neelofa which is “Naelofar Abaya” which represent the latest

update and stylish abayas and “Lofalens”, which this brand will offering the fashionable

contact lenses.

In January 2015, Naelofar Hijab has been established it first flagship stored located at

Naelofar LUXE Boutique TTDI in Kuala Lumpur. For those who wants to grab the products

and good they can visit the shop and purchase it. Last year 2020, the market is expected to be

worth around USD327 billion and the product was designed for modest fashion, with the

business seeking to advertise it in an unexplored area.

2.0 IMPLEMENTATION OF KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AND ITS

CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS PROFIT AND PRODUCTIVITY

2.1 Developing Knowledge Deployment

"Deploying Knowledge Management" refers to the process of establishing or

upgrading one's KM Strategy, which encompasses tools, information, culture, and

management (Chmaj, 2016). Nealofar Hijab Company is a major driver in Malaysia's hijab

and Muslimah garment industries. Of course, information transmission is critical to ensuring

that each department and level of management understands the company's strategy,

marketing, and so on.

The usage of the medium employed by the firm Nealofar Hijab may undoubtedly

assist management in communicating immediately and without hindrance, allowing top

management to identify the administration process. Following an online interview with

Nealofar Hijab, we discovered that the firm uses Whatsapp and Telegram as a top

management intermediary with all workers. This company's communication platform can

only be accessible by the employer and employee in order to keep any confidential

information from becoming public. According to one of Nealofar Hijab's workers, the

medium employed is the prime centre where the firm distributes information on sales,

business plan for scarf sessions, and topics about the sale of Nealofar Hijab hijabs and

apparel. Meeting sessions, in addition, are among the mediums used to spread information

within the top and managerial management.

This conference will be attended by top officials who will aid Nealofar Hijab

Company in making a critical decision. For example, the sale of hijabs for the Hari Raya

Aidilfitri session would be a huge meeting event, as it is done every year to make products

that correspond to the event's concept. Among the Channel Marketing Strategies employed

by Nealofar Hijab is the constant exchange of product information among channel members.

Seamless connectivity and ease of communication aided knowledge exchange, particularly

via Meeting and multiplatform messaging app.

2.2 Shared Vision

A shared vision is described as "employee knowledge of the organization's strategic

aims and future ambitions". Nealofar Hijab vision is to create functional headscarves with

well- thought-out designs so that their clients spend as little time as possible putting on the

headscarves. The same aim must be applied in one company where all employees are

involved in determining what the organization's goal is. Nealofar Hijab is no exception in

ensuring that all of its workers understand the company's vision and goals, even if they work

in separate divisions.

This is performed to verify objectivity in work completion and to assist the

organization in meeting its aims and objectives. Although each department has a different job

objective, every employee at Nealofar Hijab should have the same goal which is to

satisfy Muslimah women and create a hijab that is easy to use however it is fashionable.

Furthermore, Nealofar Hijab's mission is to produce premium quality headscarves by using

only the highest quality materials and accessories. Their objective is also to produce luxury at

a reasonable price. Therefore, in order to deliver the best product as mentioned in the vision

and mission of the company, Naelofar Hijab organizes development programs for its

employee to assure that they have the essential knowledge of Naelofar Hijab's goods and

understand their duties and obligations as Naelofar Hijab's teams in order to align the goal

and aim of the company.

2.3 Personal Mastery

Personal mastery is often used interchangeably. Both need self-awareness, self-

management, and self-learning. There are also some differences, although they may be

intellectual in nature. Personal mastery is a collection of precise concepts and activities that

allow a person to learn, develop a good vision, and perceive the world objectively. A learning

organization promotes and fosters learning at all levels in order to change and adapt in an

ever- changing and dynamic market (Grimsley, 2021).

Neelofar herself is a very talented woman as she becomes the first Malaysian Women

in Forbes Magazine. Among the reasons that have contributed to her success as a successful

business person to this day are the qualities of personal entrepreneurial abilities inside herself.

Furthermore, the first feature that we can detect throughout her professional history is that she

takes initiative. This is noticeable when she acts or plans quickly to find out how to expand

her company in the market. Neelofa is primarily concerned about effectiveness. This may be

observed in how she succeeded to enhance their business and collaborate with their

employees to obtain a higher market for her company at a cheaper cost. Through all these

criteria, she is the absolute perfect leader and become the main reason Nealofar Hijab

expanded in the market.

3.0 EVALUATION OF IMPLEMENTATION

Based on the implementation of the Knowledge management that is being done, these are the

result of the implementation. The implementation of knowledge management brings a good

result as a lot of good outcomes have been achieved by the Naelofar Hijab.

3.1 Got recognition from Influencer Award 2019

First outcome of implementing the Knowledge management is that the founder of the

Naelofar hijab, Neelofa managed to get recognised from the Influencer Award 2019 under the

category of entrepreneur. The award is held at Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Neelofa was the first Malaysian to be nominated and win for the award. The award is

an international award that consists of many influential nominees for a lot of categories all

around the world. So to be enlisted in the award is also a significant achievement for the

Malaysian. Neelofa nominated in the entrepreneur category proves that Malaysia Business

can get recognition from the world. The Neelofa nomination for the award really inspired and

prove to the Malaysian to be successful. Neelofar’s outstanding successes in managing

Naelofar Hijab have made it not shocking that IAM 2019 has nominated Neelofa for the

award as the business growth successfully.

Not just being nominated for the award, Neelofa also has become the first Malaysian

to win the influencer awards in Monaco. Neelofa won the award after beating out eight other

candidates from all around the world. Starting with a small-scale footwear business at home

led to the existence of the Naelofar brand; this recognition is the highest point in my business

career so far. Honestly, I feel fortunate as this hijab business can be my platform to introduce

our country and ‘modest fashion’ to outsiders.” This proved that with the proper

implementation of knowledge, it could grow the business well and can bring a good outcome.

3.2 Become and International Brand

Second outcome from the implementation of the knowledge management is that the

Naelofar Hijab manage to become an international brand. The brands of Naelofar hijab really

get good feedback from the customer as the brand has been accepted widely all around the

world and becoming an international brand. This really shows the company really well grow

as got demanded in the market from all around the world. The implementation of knowledge

management really helps the company to grow bigger.

The Naelofar Hijab company first only started to sell its product via online and at the

bazaar but with the well growth the company manage to open a flagship store as the good

feedback from the customer. The Naelofar Hijab have managed to export the shawl collection

is now exported to more than 30 countries including Brunei, Australia, United Kingdom,

Netherlands, and United States. This makes the Naelofar hijab a global brand as it is being

commercialized all over the world. The Naelofar Hijab had achieved the target which wants

to become a leading brand in the hijab modest fashion global. With the right implementation

of the knowledge management, the Naelofar Hijab manage to maintain good feedback from

the customer and get the customer all around the world. Naelofar becomes the global brand as

the founder Neelofa always represented modest fashion in the “Big Four” fashion shows like

the New York, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.

3.3 Gain profit around RM50Million in a year

Third outcome of implementing the Knowledge management is the Naelofar Hijab

gain profit amounting to RM50 Million in a year. The right use of knowledge management

makes that the Naelofar Hijab enter the market at the right time. This is when Naelofar Hijab

manage to bring in a revenue of RM50 million in 2015. This is a huge revenue for a company

that is newly open. The amount really shows that the right knowledge management really

brings a good profit. The amount that is being achieved is actually twice more than what is

actually being targeted.

The revenue resulted from the sales of products from its flagship store and through a

network of 700 distributors nationwide. Not only got demanded in the Malaysia market the

Naelofar hijab is also top in the global as the Naelofar hijab Managed to get the total sales of

RM5 Million from the overseas sales. This show that the Naelofar Hijab really meets the

demand of the customer and the market as the company manages to sell a lot of the hijab and

get a lot of demands from the market. Naelofar Hijab really understands the product

segmentation as the Naelofar Hijab manage to influence consumer buying decisions and have

a successful marketing campaign. Naelofar Hijab offers a great variety of hijab styles in order

to satisfy the diversity in needs and tastes of customers. The profit came from Naelofar Hijab

as the company keeps improving the existing product in order to meet the demand of the

market and satisfy the customer. Naelofar Hijab will always launch a new design and

marketing strategy from time to time. Each new design that being release will surely hit the

crowd because the quality that comes from the brand brings satisfaction to their customers.

Different designs and the use of high-quality fabric also become a factor that brand can be the

customers favourite and managed to keep the loyal customers.

4.0 CHALLENGES OF IMPLEMENTATION

4.1 Current Potential and Competitors that sell Hijab

As a company with a big name, Naelofar Hijab surely must deal with the other

possible competitors that seems able to threaten their business stability. When they are well-

known throughout the local market, they often having an issue regarding the plagiarism. This

happens when they are launching new products and then other small businesses might copy

the design. Sometimes, it is quite difficult for them to know which company who did that

unethical conduct because of the information availability.

To avoid this problem, Naelofar Hijab has taken an approach to always come up with

many new collections. Things might be difficult for Naelofar Hijab as they need to face

another big company who sells similar products. For the example, Duck Scarves and

Sugarscarf. One of the principles of organizational learning, which is the mental model, it

stated that the organization must be flexible in adapting to any changes and the new image of

the company. It also stated that a successful company need to be able to learn and accepting

the new mental models in order to make them become faster than the other competitors. By

looking at Naelofar Hijab, they must compete with the other competitors. So, they will come

up with new ideas to ensure that their products will keep being relevant.

4.2 Betrayed from Employees

Just like other companies, Naelofar Hijab also starts from the bottom. When they starting

to grow, they hired more staffs to ensure that they can keep up with the rapid business

processes as they become more successful from time to time. Unfortunately, that success also

come with the common issue that happens in any businesses. Some of the new hired

employees have betrayed their trust. As reported, the employees have stolen the data of

the products of the

company. All the stolen data and designs have been sold to their competitors. Other than that,

some of the employees who betrayed the Naelofar Hijab also sold the stolen products through

the back door. This issue has become one of the biggest challenges for Naelofar Hijab as they

must bear losses. In the dimension of model of organizational intelligences by Karl Albrecht,

this issue is related to the appetite for change. So, Naelofar Hijab must be prepared with the

unexpected challenges.

4.3 Supplier did not provide enough material

Naelofar Hijab is a company who started their business of hijab collections in 2013.

During that time, Naelofar Hijab got their supply of materials from one of the companies in

Lebanon. But the issue or problems keep on happened as the company stated that they cannot

supply enough materials as been demanded by Naelofar Hijab. The founder Noor Neelofa

Mohd Noor said, “Our stockists and agents were embarrassing us. So, we come up with a

decision to take control, and then designed our own hijab products. In that way, we will be

able to decide how much we want to create and produce.” (The Sun Daily, 2019) This

approach made by Naelofar Hijab is like the areas of group culture which is the critical

incidents. Naelofar Hijab do not stick to the same approach by getting the supply from the

company in Lebanon.

5.0 SUGGESTIONS

5.1 Focus more on the online sale

Nowadays, many companies use online platform to promote their business including

Naelofar Hijab. Online platform able to reach a lot of people and most of us do online

shopping to save time. We think that if Naelofar Hijab focusing more on the online sale it

may improve and gain more profit from the sale. They can learn how to tackle customers

from online platform by creating beautiful and easy website to use, make an easy process for

payment and enable the products to be post all around the world since Naelofar Hijab is a big

company and they have a lot of branches all around Asia. They must have good knowledge in

terms on how to use online platform so that their online sale can function well. Furthermore,

if they apply the KM drivers which is the technology drivers like the need of the perfect link

between the knowledge, business strategy and information technology, for sure the online

sale can boost more customers and the company can expand their business knowledge and

gain more informative knowledge on how to handle the online sale.

5.2 Provide enough training and get feedback from employees


Next, every company all around the world need to give and send their employees for

training in order for them to gain more experiences and new knowledge so that they can

improve their skills in the company. This is same goes to Naelofar Hijab. Sending employees

for training will help the company to have many skilled and qualified people to manage

Naelofar Hijab effectively and efficiently. Once they have done with the training, the

employees will apply the knowledge they have learned during the training into their work.

This is what we called k-acquisition or knowledge acquisition whereby the employees gain or

obtain the knowledge from external source- training. They will also share their knowledge

and ideas in the company so the company can get more ideas on how to improve or make

new products

for customers. The employee will increase their knowledge and at the same time the company

will gain more profit by sending the employees to the training.

We also want to suggest that Naelofar Hijab to get feedback from their employees.

This is because, in order to create a balance in the company, both parties need to

communicate thoroughly so that all the work done give good result to the company.

Feedbacks will help the company to improve in terms of the treatments towards the

employees, benefits the employees get and to avoid any harassment or bullying in the

workplace. In terms of the products, employers can get the feedback from the employees on

how the customers views and rate their products for example the price and the quality of the

products. Team learning is very important as it includes all the composition of the

organization to achieve the discipline practices in the company and improve the

communication between the employers and employees. All the team members must act

together and always get feedback every month from the employees so that everyone is aware

on what to improve and understand their job properly.

5.3 Make their own material or contact trusted supplier

Making the material by their own or contact a trusted supplier also one of the

suggestions we would like to add for Naelofar Hijab. By making their own material they can

save the cost and save time as it will not require them to wait for the materials to be done by

other company. Aside from that, Naelofar Hijab can monitor the process in making the

materials and they can request anything they want to add or how much they want to create the

materials. By having their own factory to produce their own materials, it can also open the

job opportunities to people who are searching for work. By doing so, it can speed up the

process and the materials can be finish easily with good quality.

Contacting a trusted supplier is also very important in order to avoid any unnecessary

issues or fraud within both parties. Previously, Naelofar Hijab has an issue regarding the

supplier did not provide enough material to them. So, in order to avoid the same thing,

happen again it is advisory that Naelofar Hijab to find a good supplier carefully. The founder

needs to ask for recommendation for example from the family members or business

associates to find a good supplier that able to meet the demand of the company. To find a

good supplier, the founder must meet the supplier directly without any involvement of the

middleman so that it can cuts down the cost of finding supplier. This is because some of the

middleman is not honest and they can trick the company to a fraud supplier just to get the

money. The founder can get a firsthand experience of the supplier efficiency if they do not

involve any middleman. Naelofar Hijab need to do a thorough check via online too to see

whether the supplier promote their service or not. Reading review from the previous client on

the website also can give as reassure and to see if the supplier is authentic or not. It is very

important for Naelofar Hijab to create good materials and find a good supplier in order to

fulfill the customers need and gain profit for the company as well as they need to invest a lot

on the productions.

6.0 CONCLUSION

Naelofar Hijab has proven to us that they are one of the best large online businesses.

Naelofar Hijab is the organization or company that have given job opportunities to the people

in Malaysia to work with them and also provide variety of hijab for the customer through

online business. In order for the Naelofar Hijab to give good services and product for their

customer, Naelofar Hijab have introduced knowledge management to all level management

of the organization. The employees who handle the department on website must have a good

communication to deal with their customer and this cannot be done with the knowledge

management. When knowledge management applied in the Naleofar Hijab, the objective and

goal of the organization can be achieved easily, and they also can compete with their

competitors and stay relevant in the industries.
