1895.It was originally known as
“Mintonette”.

“Volleyball” in 1896 based on how
to play the game.
“Volley” means to hit the ball before

Canada – the first country outside US to adopt

1924 – it was played as a part of an American

(FIVB) was founded
1949 – 1st world championship for men was held.

1952 – 1st word championship for women
1957 – the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) designated Volleyball as an Olympic team
sports to be included the 1964 Olympic games.
1964 – officially included in the program of
summer Olympics in Tokyo.
1996 – Beach Volleyball was added to the
Olympics
1998 – Libero player was introduced
internationally.
