Look at word “biodiversity”. It’s actually two words combined together. With your Partner, breakdown the
meaning of the two words in biodiversity.
Bio means: life or living things

Diversity means: understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual
differences

Now, combine the two words and try to come up with your own definition of biodiversity:
Biodiversity means the world's variation of life or in a common habitat or ecosystem. The
difference between living organisms from all sources, including freshwater, coral, and other
aquatic environments, and the living things to which they belong, including species, life
forms, and genetic variation.

You might have already heard of “Climate Change” in some social platforms as a hot issue and
advocacy that calls for biological, economical, sociological and political concerns. Below is a
concept map, with the word climate change at the center, write something out of what you know
and understand about this issue.

Climate change is a change in weather patterns


and significant variations in the weather land
surfaces and ice sheets over decades or longer
periods of time.
 Burning fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, that
generate greenhouse gases into the atmosphere,
primarily carbon dioxide, is the primary cause of
climate change.
Other human activities also lead to the
proliferation of greenhouse gases that cause
climate change, such as agriculture and
deforestation.
 Almost every part of our lives is influenced by the
environment, from our food supplies to our transport infrastructure, from what clothes we
wear to where we go on vacation. It has an immense impact on our livelihoods, on our
wellness, and on our future. The climate in any given location is the long-term cycle of
weather conditions.
 With heavier rainfall, climate change causes rain, flooding plantations, such as this one,
which grows rice. A warmer environment has more evaporation, even at half a degree
Celsius, leading to more water in the atmosphere. These changing circumstances put our
agriculture, health, the availability of water and more at risk.
 Through climate changes, more frequent heavy rains and runoff, and the impact of
storms, climate change raises the risk of illness. Diseases such as diarrhea, effects on the
nervous and respiratory systems of the body, or damage to the liver and kidneys can have
health effects.
