Problem:

During the festivities of april durango is preparing for a big fourth of july party with a band
concert. Alongside mystical fireworks the band leader Kevin wanted to make the event bigger
and better. He wants each of the baton twirlers to have their own platform. As well as the height
from the new platform to the next to be the same. There's a problem however, Kevin is an
indecisive man and isn’t making any ground on the amount of platforms he should have, as well
as the height of each platform and lastly the difference in height between each platform.
However the acuity manager Camilla is having the hardest time. She can't really do her job until
Kevin makes up his mind but when he does she is in charge of building and decorating the
structure. Though she needs a permit from the city and needs to know how tall the platforms will
be first. She plans to hang a colorful strip of ribbon down from each platform to the ground
which would cover the whole platform width and length wise. She needs to know the total
amount of material she should buy but is going crazy because Kevin is super indecisive. The
task is really for the assistant “us” to find the information needed for camilla to get a permit
alongside find out what she needs. The task ks two create two formulas one that expresses the
height of the tallest platform and the other should show the amount of fabric camilla needs.

Solutions:

Formula for the height of the tallest platform: y=h+n(c-1) or E (h+(c-1)n).

Formula for the amount of Ribbon- Closed: n/2(2h+(n-1)c)

Process and Justification:

The Solution to the first equation is Y=h+n(c-1). Where y is the height of the tallest
platform, h= the height of the platforms, n= the total number of platforms, and lastly c= change
in height of the platforms. I was really confused at first when I was given this task of finding an
equation that would give me the answer to the tallest platform. Though honestly I came to this
answer by working through it with my peers. I realized that in order to find the tallest platform
there would have to find the rate of change between the platforms and then also realized that
when the variables are put into the equation the way to find the tallest platform is to simply
subtract one from the rate of change which then gives you the height of the tallest platform. To
be honest I'm still a bit confused about the concept but I’m positive this is the answer because it
works when you try it and everyone else got the same answer but with different variables. In
regards to the second solution. I found this answer by procrastinating and playing it smart. Just
kidding, though I did procrastinate on this pow if I’m being honest and that allowed me to see
the closed answer that you had on the board. Though it does make sense as the general gist is
similar to that of the 1st equation but different in the sense that the whole equation is divided by
2 because the equation is set up in a way that would have an outcome of a doubled total fabric
meaning the division brings it back to the normal amount.

Reflection:
This pow was pretty confusing for me and because of that I procrastinated a lot. I'm not
super proud that I put it off but I am happy that I finished it before break was over. Next time I
definitely want to try and push myself to get it done on time because I feel like I’d do better
genuine work as compared to the rushed work I threw together because I waited so long to get
a start on it. However the point is I am a little unproud because I waited so long but am not
extremely unproud because although I did wait I do feel like I put forth lots of effort into this write
up. So in the end I do recognize that since I waited I delayed the work that I could have done a
bit ago showing that next time I will try and be more motivated so I don't just sit around and not
get my work done.

Extension Question:

Would the pillars have to be the same shape for this formula to work or could they be
different sizes and shapes?
