▪ Cholera is an infectious disease that causes
severe watery diarrhea, which can lead to
dehydration or even death within hours if
untreated.
▪ The incubation period of cholera is from 2
hours to 5 days. Usually 2-3 days.

▪ CAUSATIVE AGENT
▪ Cholera is caused by eating food or drinking water
contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio Cholerae
▪ RESERVOIR
▪ Humans are considered as the primary reservoir
▪ Vibrio Cholerae can also exist in fresh water or
marine environments.
▪ Common sources may include:
▪ Municipal Water Supplies
▪ Vegetables grown with water containing human
wastes
▪ Raw or undercooked fish and seafood caught in
polluted waters
▪ PORTAL OF EXIT
▪ Through fecal waste of human reservoir and
contaminating foods and waters
▪ TRANSMISSION
▪ Consuming contaminated foods and drinks
containing Vibrio Cholerae
▪ PORTAL OF ENTRY
▪ Through the mouth or indigestion of
contaminated food or water
▪ SUSCEPTIBLE HOST
▪ Cholera affects males and females in equal
numbers
▪ Drink only bottled, boiled, or
chemically treated water
▪ Avoid tap water
▪ Proper Hygiene
▪ Eat freshly cooked foods
▪ Dispose of feces in a sanitary
manner

electrolytes
