1. Introduction
Global passport index is a ranking of the index includes 199 different passports and 227 different
travel destinations. In our survey we have discussed about global passport index about 5 different
countries. Those 5 countries are Hong-Kong, Haiti, Guinea, Guyana, Honduras. It shows the
countries regarding their global passport power rank, Mobility score, Visa free, visa on arrival
and visa required. Based on their scores in the Global passport index of the years 2015-2022, a
comparison between five mentioned countries we have discussed.

1.1 Origin of the Report

This report was given to us as a part of the partial requirement for the completion of the course
“International Business” of the Bachelor of Business Administration program of East West
University. This report was assigned to us by our course instructor Jashim Uddin, Associate
Professor, Department of Business Administration, East West University. Sir has assigned the
task of writing this report to us on a group basis.

1.2 Objective of the Study

The study’s main goal is to analyze the performance of Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras,
and Hong Kong in terms of global passport index from 2015-2022. It includes factors like World
Rank, Mobility Score, Visa required, etc. of the given countries.
 Converting data collected from Passport Index into useful information.
 Comparing between the scores of key components of Passport Power Index
 Showing comparison of 5 countries in terms of passport power index.
 Generating a great output through teamwork.

1.3 Scope of the Study

As Passport Power Index is such a benchmark that we can understand and compare just by
looking at the scores, we mainly wrote our report based on the numerical data we collected from
Passport Index website. We also surfed through the internet and looked for relevant articles to
produce an even fruitful result. This analysis will assist in comparing the performance of five
countries in terms of Global passport index, providing proper data. Our scope was only
highlighting the performance of the Global Passport Index from 2015 to 2022.

1.4 Limitation of the Study

Our study has some inevitable limitations that we couldn’t avoid. We are regular students who
don’t have much experience in writing a report on Passport power index of certain countries. It
was our first time we wrote a report on such a unique topic and learnt a lot of things in the
process. However, our lack of knowledge has had some effect on our term paper. Another one of

6
our limitations is that the core pillar of our term paper was secondary data collected from
Passport Index website.

 Lack of primary data: As the world is suffering from a pandemic, we had limited options to
collect primary data. We mostly had to collect secondary data from the Internet and Passport
Index website.
 Time Constraint: To complete the study, we had limited time. It was a little difficult to get
into in-depth details.

1.5 Methodology of the Study

We have used analytical and theoretical methods to collect data in this term paper. We have used
mostly secondary data analysis method.
 Secondary data collection: For secondary data, we surfed the “Passport Index” website and
collected numerical data of the 5 countries assigned to us.

7
2. Discussion:
2.1 Global Passport Power Rank

The Passport Index is an interactive web tool that gives users information about passports and
allows them to compare and score passports from around the world. The rankings are based on
the freedom of movement and visa-free travel available to passport holders. The site allows
users to view passports from various countries by utilizing filters such as region and passport
cover color.

Global Passport Power Rank: The overall visa-free score of the world's passports is ranked.
Countries with the same number of visa-free countries are ordered by the number of visa-free
countries component of their score. The overall Mobility Score, which includes visa-free and
visa-on-arrival advantages, is used to sort the world's passports. The greater the passport
holder's global mobility, the higher the MS score.

The rankings of the Passport Index are updated in real-time when new visa agreements are
signed. Passport Index rankings are in real-time and continue to vary as recent changes to visa
agreements are made. For the most part, the Top 10 places have been occupied by European
countries, apart from Singapore.

2.2 Mobility Score (MS)

Mobility Score (MS) is the total number of countries that can be easily accessed with a given
passport. It is a calculated total based on Visa-free, Visa-on-arrival, eTA, and eVisa issued within
3 days.

8
Passports accumulate points for each country that their holders can visit without a visa, or they
can obtain a visa on arrival. You can boost your Personal Mobility Score by discover which
additional passport(s) can improve your Personal Mobility Score. The higher the personal
mobility score, the more countries you can visit visa-free, or with visa on arrival.

2.3 Visa-Free (VF)

Permission from a foreign authority to enter a country is not required. The capacity to travel to
a foreign country without requiring a travel visa is referred to as visa-free travel. Only a valid
passport is necessary for admission and leave in this situation.

2.4 Visa on arrival (VOA)

Visa on arrival means that travelers must obtain a visa in order to enter the destination country,
but it can be obtained arrival.

2.5 Visa required (VR)

The term "visa required" refers to the requirement for travelers to apply for a visa to the
country before traveling there.

3. Analysis
3.1 Haiti
Haiti is a country which is located on the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its
East. It is a Caribbean country. Haiti is still recovering from a 2010 earthquake, many of its
landmark’s lineup to the early 19th century remain intact. Haiti is the third-largest country in the
Caribbean by area and size. Haiti's first-time independence was seen by political instability,
ostracism by the international community, and the payment of a limping debt to France. Political
moves and foreign economic influence in the country prompted the U.S. to employ the country
from 1915 to 1934. From a series of short-lived presidencies, François 'Papa Doc' Duvalier was
in charge from 1956, ushering in a long period of autocratic rule continued by his son, Jean-
Claude 'Baby Doc' Duvalier, that was until 1986, the period was characterized by state-
sanctioned violence against the opposition and civilians, corruption, and economic stagnation.
After 1986, Haiti began attempting to establish a more democratic political system.
Haiti is a founding member of the United Nations, the Organization of
American States also the association of the Caribbean States, and the
Organization international de la Francophonie. Haiti is historically poor and
politically unstable; Haiti has the lowest Human Development Index in the
Americas. Since the turn of the 21st century, the country has endured a coup
delict, which prompted U.N. intervention, as well as a catastrophic
earthquake that killed over 250,000 people.

According to the Global passport index, Haiti is in the 76th position and it allows visa-free travel
to 14 countries. And its mobility score is 56.

3.5 Guyana

17
This is a country on the northern mainland of South America. The capital city is Georgetown.
The full name of Guyana is the Co-Operative Republic of Guyana, Climate change is causing
catastrophes worldwide, but for Guyana, which is one of the poorest countries in South America,
the risks are especially existential.
Explorer Christopher Columbus sighted the Guyana coast in 1498, and Spain subsequently
claimed but largely avoided, the area between the Orinoco and
Amazon deltas, a region long known as the Wild Coast. It was
the Dutch who finally began European settlement, establishing
trading posts preselected government out 1580.
By the mid-17th century, the Dutch had begun importing slaves
from West Africa to cultivate sugarcane. In the 18th century the
Dutch, joined by other Europeans, moved their estates downriver
toward the fertile soils of the estuaries and coastal mudflats.
Laurens Storm van’s Gravesend, governor of Essequibo from
1742 to 1772, coordinated these development efforts.
Guyana changed hands with bewildering frequency during the
French revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (mostly between the
British and the French) from 1792 to 1815. During a brief French
occupation, Longchamp, later called Georgetown was established at the mouth of the Demerara
River; the Dutch renamed it Stabroek and continued to develop it. The British took over in 1796
and remained in possession, except for short intervals, until 1814, when they purchased
Demerara, Berbice, and Essequibo, which in 1831 were united as the colony of British Guiana.
Nonetheless, the country is hitching its future to the same fossil fuels that are accelerating
climate change. It’s the only country in Africa that speaks. It's a third-world country and
considered to be one of the smallest.

Guyana is currently ranked 61 and provides 87 countries to visit without a visa.

According to the world ranking, we can see that from 2015-to 2022 the position has fluctuated
quite a lot of times and still manages to grow. As the visa fees have decreased over the years still
it has gained a lot of on-arrival permission throughout the years.
In the below table global passport rank is given. We can see the world rank, mobility score, vise
free, visa score, and visa required from 2015-to 2022

In this graph, we can see the record from the 2015-to 2022 years passport index. From this chart,
we can say that most of the time the power rank of Guyana was 52-61st position. In 2020 the
power rank of Guyana 61 was in the position which is the best position for Guyana. The graph
shows that in 2020 the global passport power rank was 49, mobility score 71, visa-free 34, visa

19
on arrival 37, and visa required 127. That means in 2020 the passport index of Guyana was better
than last and present years.

So, we can see from 2015-to 2022, the highest rank was in 2020 and the lowest rank was in
2019.

Also, the highest mobility score was in 2018 and 2022 and the lowest mobility score was in 20.

Next, we can see from the years 2015-to 2022 the highest visa-free was in 2017 and 2018. On the
other hand, the lowest was in 2019 which was at the time of Covid.

Lastly, in visa on arrival in Guyana, the highest score was in 2022 and the lowest was in 2017.

4. Comparison
The term paper includes the global Passport index of 5 countries- Hong Kong, Haiti, Guinea,
Guyana, and Honduras. The name of our topic is “Global passport index of selected countries
from 2015-2022". We have done this term paper for eight selected years. We tried to simplify
much information through graphs and charts. Now we are going to compare them with each
other. it’ll show us the overall which passport is better than the other, and basis on that which
county is more stable than the other. Cause the higher the passport scores higher it is safe to
travel. It shows the country’s status regarding its rank, mobility, and other related subjects visa-
free access, and on arrival visa. The findings and discussion will provide us with a clearer picture
of the given topic
For the comparison, I have chosen the Global passport power rank and Mobility Score because
we thought that it gives users the overall result
At first, we are going to compare the Global passport power rank for all 5 countries to get the
overall best score. The higher the score is it is less desirable and unsafe to travel in these
countries

From the above graph, we can clearly that Guinea Bissau got the highest overall percentage at
30% whereas the lowest percentage has gotten by Hong Kong at 6% which means Hongkong is
much safer to travel than Guinea Bissau-based on the Global passport power rank.
The 2nd highest country least to travel is Haiti at around 29% one less percent than Guinea.
And after Hong Kong, the 2nd country to visit is Honduras at 14% which is a huge difference
compared to Hong Kong. Judging by this Hong Kong is the most desirable country to visit out of
five.

Now, we are going to compare the Mobility Score for all 5 countries to get the overall best score.
In mobility score visa free, visa on arrival and visa required well be included. The lower the
score is it is less desirable and unsafe to travel in these countries

22
From the above graph, we can clearly that Guinea Bissau got the lowest overall percentage at
12% whereas the highest percentage has been gotten by Hong Kong at 32% which means
Hongkong is much safer to travel than Guinea Bissau based on the Mobility Score.

After Hong Kong, the 2nd highest score in mobility is Honduras at 26% compared to the first
which is 8% low, and it isn’t that much of a huge difference in the mobility rate. on the other
hand, Guyana is at 13%, 1% more than Guinea also in the same category meaning not so
desirable to travel.

What we get from the rank and mobility is that it is safe for a foreigner and also an investor to
invest if their passport rank is low. Many factors can account for this. Like the country’s
stability, internal politics, relationship in the geopolitics, etc.

Judging all by this Hong Kong is in a good place compared to others and Guinea Bissau is in the
worst stage. If we get a chance to visit a county out of these five well defiantly chose Hong Kong

5. Conclusion
After analyzing the Global passport Index of the five countries (Haiti, Hong Kong, Guinea
Bissau, Guyana, Honduras) we found out some major issues regarding the passports of these
countries. Every passport represents some major facts which includes the rank and how the
country is doing in their individual passport rank condition. Over the 8 years, the mobility score
hasn’t been stable. After brief research we finally understand which country need to be careful
about each component (Passport Power Rank, Visa-Free, Visa on Arrival, Visa Required). A few
Countries need to be more careful regarding their position and some have some incredible
development in their worldwide rank. This global passport index helped us to understand the
current status of the following countries.
