Activity 1: Recognizing Ethical Problems

Name five events in past months, weeks, or days that can be qualified as
ethical problems. Give your reasons. You can use stories or events published in
newspapers or aired on televisions.
Please give proper acknowledgment of the source. You don’t need to get the whole
story. This activity is meant to assess whether you can recognize ethical problems. It
will be graded and categorized as a performance outcome.

1.) Corruption allegations rock Philippine health insurance corporation amid

COVID-19

PhilHealth senior officials accusations of corruption of P15B. I considered this as an

ethical problem because as we corruption is one of the biggest problem we face in
our country. It is thievery of public money and as a result the citizens suffer due to
lack of resources used for health purposes. Corruption in the Philippines is not
something novel as the coronavirus that is plaguing the country and the world at
large. It is rather an endemic, deep-seated, and deep-rooted virus that has afflicted
the country since time immemorial. It is a social menace and a mammoth stumbling
block to good governance that had penetrated not just the government but even
the private and non-government sectors as well as Philippine society even before
outbreak of CoronaVirus in the country.

2.) Raffy Tulfo says Mobile Legends should be studied, banned by gov’t if needed

Broadcast journalist Raffy Tulfo believes the Philippine government should conduct a study,
and even ban, the addictive gaming hit known as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. This ia an
ethical problem about online game addiction. Excessive gaming on phone can affect our
behaviour, health and attitude, study and work, and our relationship with others, and in
some cases it causes an illness such as anemia, dehydration, weakness as a result of lack of
sleep. There are also some cases on our country of excessive playing caused their death.

3.) INCREASING NUMBER OF CASES IN QUEZON PROVINCE

Even here in Lucena City, it is very usual to see children playing outside just their
selves without face mask and face shields. Another is the Facebook Day I saw from
my shs classmate before, she posted a video glimpse of going in Dalahican Beach for
a swim wherein she quoted “Parang Mahal na Araw lang”. You can see there the
cottages full of swim goers, sitting and swimming very close to each other. There are
also some drinking alcohols. The number of cases is drastically running high.
Everyone is clearly aware of our current situation. Despite of that still there are a lot
of people continuously violating the law.

4.) PHILIPPINES: CURFEW VIOLATORS ABUSED

As reported the violators of the Government’s COVID- 19 Regulations after arrested

were confined in dogs’ cages and forced to sit in midday sun. Also, police killed a
man in Bulacan for allegedly avoiding the checkpoint. Human rights are drastically
violated by the officials. Even if they knew that this people are violating the law,
they shouldn’t have punished them severely like this. They know what is the right or
wrong punishment to be given to the violators, but still they refused to, they punish
them badly, also violating the human rights of the violators.

5.) DISTANCE CHEATING IN DISTANCE LEARNING AMIDST THE PANDEMIC

Cheating is never been right. Amidst of the pandemic, as what Ms. Jennie Jocson an
Araling Panlipunan and Filipino teacher at Ateneo Grade School stated, cheating is
inevitable in online classes. Even before it is already happening with the different
kinds of mean in this modern day. Even a grade school already know that cheating is
bad, but still they are submitting their cheated school works. Also, some photos are
circulating in the internet wherein the parents and elder siblings are the ones doing
some of the students’ home works. Their parents are tolerating their children to
cheat.
