Q.48. DESCRIBE THE FEATURES OF SIMPLE NETWORK AND
THE NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A LARGE
COMPANY.

A simple network consists of two or more connected

computers. Basic network components include computers,
network interfaces, a connection medium, network operating
system software, and either a hub or a switch.

The networking infrastructure for a large company relies on

both public and private infrastructures to support the
movement of information across diverse technological
platforms.

It includes the traditional telephone system, mobile cellular

communication, wireless local area networks,
videoconferencing systems, a corporate web site, intranets,
and networks volved from two fundamentally different types
of networks which is telephone networks and computer
networks.
Features of a Simple Network:

• The entities of a simple network are the client

computer, a dedicated server computer, network
interfaces, a connection medium, network operating
system software, and a hub or a switch.
• Client computers within a network are connected to
other client computers.
• A dedicated server computer does network functions
for client computers.
• This can be anything from serving up Web pages to
storing data and storing the network operating system.
• Connection mediums such as telephone wires, coaxial
cables, or radio signals link network components.
• Network operating system software is essentially
responsible for controlling the network and its
functions.
• The most widely used network operating system
software are Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, and
Novell Open Enterprise Server.
• Hubs and switches send packets of data to all other
connected devices.
• A hub sends a packet to all other connected devices
while a switch has the ability to choose a specified
destination.
Features of the Network Infrastructure for a Large
Company:

• Since large companies have multiple locations and a

large number of employees, the collection of hundreds
of small local area networks needs to be combined into
a corporate-wide networking infrastructure.
• The infrastructure is comprised of many small local
area networks that are linked to other local area
networks and to corporate networks.
• The infrastructure also has the ability to support
mobile sales by using smartphones, mobile employees
linking to the company Web site, internal company
networks using Wi-Fi networks, and videoconferencing
systems to provide effective communication among
managers on a global scale.
• Overall, the network infrastructure for a large
company involves the use of a wide variety of
technologies such as ordinary telephone service and
corporate data networks to Internet service, wireless
Internet, and cell phones.
Next, identify and explain the principal technologies
and trends that have shaped contemporary
telecommunications systems.
