FADE UP: Outside of a gas station on a somewhat empty

highway.

CARLEY, a 32 year old CASHIER, with BLONDE hair, and GREEN

eyes.

LYLAC, a 30 year old GRAPHIC DESIGNER, with light BROWN

hair and BROWN eyes.

JIM, a 31 year old ELECTRICIAN, with BROWN hair and BROWN

eyes.

JIM and LYLAC ENTER the GAS STATION.

CARLEY
(kindly)
Hi, welcome to the Lucky Gas Station. How
can I-Oh My Gosh. What are you guys doing
here?
CARLEY
(whispers)
I thought you guys were in jail.

LYLAC
(Sounding rushed)
Aaand hello to you too.

LYLAC
(whispers)
We broke out and are running to- well more
like driving to Canada, but we gotta get to
canada before the police notice we’re gone.

JIM
Anyways, we were just making a quick pit
stop before we got going.

CARLEY
Okay, what can I help you with?

LYLAC
I made a list. We are gonna need bear mace,
beef jerky, a flashlight, a lighter or
matches, some granola bars, and two water
bottles.

CARLEY starts WALKING to the back of the STORE to get their

SUPPLIES.
CARLEY
Okay one sec let me go get that for you.

CARLEY EXITS the SCENE.

LYLAC
(Whispers, sounding annoyed)
Well what are we going to do when we get to
Canada?

JIM
(whispers)
Hey, it wasn’t my fault that a secret
message was sent to me by the government on
accident and I happend to tell you about it.

JIM
(Whispers sarcastically)
And of course it had to be about the
government cutting half the population.

LYLAC
I wasn’t accusing you of anything. Just
asking what are we gonna do when we get
there.

JIM
I thought you had friends in Canada. I for
sure have friends there. So I figured we
could stay with them for a bit until we got
ourselves on our feet.

LYLAC
Okay, but if this goes south don't blame me.

JIM
You got a better idea?

LYLAC
No, but I was just thinking that we should
have thought about this plan longer.

JIM
(Whispers)

We didn’t have the time. We basically had

thirty minutes to get the plan together and
get out.

CARLEY ENTERS the SCENE with the SUPPLIES LYLAC ASKED for,
and PUTS them on the COUNTER.

CARLEY
Got your stuff! Sorry I took so long. I had
a bit of trouble with finding your bear
mace. The reason for that was well…the store
doesn’t carry that.

LYLAC
It’s fine, we can find some on our way to
Canada.

JIM
Enough with all the chit chat. We already
lost over twenty minutes, and we only got
about an hour to get to the border before
the police notice.

LYLAC
Oh shoot yeah you’re right. Sorry Carley,
but we have got to get going if we are going
to make it outside of the U.S.

CARLEY
It’s okay, anyways your total is thirty five
dollars and twenty five cents.

LYLAC HANDS CARLEY the MONEY, and JIM and LYLAC PICK UP the
SUPPLIES OFF the COUNTER.

CARLEY
Good luck, and stay in touch!

JIM
See ya!

LYLAC
Bye!

JIM and LYLAC JOG back to the GREY CAR outside the LUCKY
GAS STATION.
